The first round of the two singles draws at Wimbledon will conclude on what is expected to be another roasting hot day at SW19 on Tuesday both in terms of the weather and the action that we will see around the grounds at the London venue.
We saw the men’s defending champion survive a monster scare on the opening day of the tournament and as is tradition we have the women’s title holder opening up play on the main court on Tuesday, where we have another absolutely stacked schedule to enjoy across the grounds on day two.
Centre Court
Barbora Krejcikova came into Wimbledon knowing that she would open up the order of play on Centre Court on Tuesday as the champion begins her title defence. What she wasn’t aware of it that she would have an awkward first round clash with the Eastbourne finalist Alexandra Eala to contend with. That is the case though. We then have bonus tennis with the conclusion of the match between Alexander Zverev and Arthur Rinderknech which was tied at 1-1 when time ran out on Monday. When they are done Novak Djokovic gets his quest for another Wimbledon title up and running when he faces off against the French player Alexandre Muller. As ever, just the three matches take place on Centre Court which means the French Open champion Coco Gauff rounds off the action on the main court when the American meets the Nottingham finalist Dayana Yastremska in another tasty looking match.
Court 1
With two women’s matches on Centre Court we have two men’s matches over on Court 1 where the schedule gets underway with the top seed Jannik Sinner on show. He will go up against his countryman Luca Nardi in the first game of the day. They will be followed by the conclusion of the match between Taylor Fritz and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard which was locked at two sets each when it was controversially pulled for the day on Monday. The women’s match on Court 1 sees the former champion Petra Kvitova looking to take her final Wimbledon appearance into the second round when she faces the dark horse for the title for many in Emma Navarro. It is all about the British number one in the final game on the Court 1 schedule as Jack Draper looks to build on the home success when he goes up against the Argentine player Sebastian Baez.
Court 2
There is a really good schedule over on Court 2 on Tuesday too and the recent champion in Bad Homburg gets it underway when Jessica Pegula goes up against Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Another Italian player is on Court after then when the semi-finalist of last year, Lorenzo Musetti, takes on the veteran Nikoloz Basilashvili before we go back to the women’s draw where the runner-up to Pegula last week in Iga Swiatek gets her quest for a first Wimbledon title underway when she takes on the challenge of Polina Kudermetova. It will be the men who conclude the show over on what is known as the graveyard court when Ben Shelton looks to put his huge serve to good use when he meets the lowly ranked Alex Bolt.
Court 3
The other show Court at Wimbledon is Court 3 and there is a tidy schedule on there as well, one which opens up with the American player Tommy Paul facing the Beitish challenger Johannus Monday. We have an extra match on Court 3 on Tuesday as Katerina Siniakova and Qinwen Zheng try again to play their first round match after it couldn’t be fit in on Monday. When they are done the exciting teenager Mirra Andreeva will open up her Wimbledon campaign when she faces Mayar Sharif for a place in round two. The popular Grigor Dimitrov is the third seed onto the Court on Tuesday. He has a clash with Yoshihito Nishioka to navigate and when they are done the former champion Elena Rybakina will look to improve her already excellent Wimbledon record when she closes off the action on this court by taking on Elena Avanesyan.

Best of the Rest
As ever in the early stages of a Grand Slam the quality on show on the outside courts is very high for those with a grounds pass or access to all the streams for every court. On Court 12 we have seeded players such as Clara Tauson, Ugo Humbert and Sofia Kenin on show as well as Gael Monfils, Dan Evans and Taylor Townsend while the Court 18 schedule contains Alex de Minaur, Liudmila Samsonova and Jakub Mensik. Alex Michelsen, Magdalena Frech, Magda Linette, Daria Kasatkina, Alexander Bublik, Karolina Muchova, Tomas Machac and Brandon Nakashima are some of the many other seeds scheduled to be in action.
Men’s Betting
There are just a couple of bets that I like the look of on Tuesday with the match win bet coming in the form of Christopher Eubanks, whose big bomb of a serve has to be a major weapon when he goes up against Jesper de Jong. Eubanks hasn’t played much tennis recently so it was encouraging that he was involved in the exhibition circuit last week where he got the better of Frances Tiafoe and pushing Andrey Rublev close and that bodes well. De Jong isn’t really someone to trust on grass. He clearly likes to be involved in rallies if his comments after losing to Reilly Opelka in Hertogenbosch when he felt he was playing the better tennis but couldn’t get into any rallies. De Jong has won just one of five matches in the grass court season which puts his record on the surface at a pretty ordinary 6-13 for his career. Eubanks loves it on grass. He is a former quarter finalist here and has won the title in Mallorca on this surface. Since 2022 he is 22-14 on grass and looks the play given the firm, fast and hot conditions.
Sticking with those conditions and the 2/1 that the first set between Ben Shelton and Alex Bolt goes to a tiebreak looks a little on the large side to me. Shelton is a player who you would think would excel on grass with his big leftie serve but this season he has played four matches on the surface and lost the lot. One thing to take from those defeats though is in the eight sets he has played, seven of them have been settled by a tiebreak which certainly makes that 2/1 look big. Bolt isn’t such a big server but Shelton doesn’t win many return games and in the second qualifying round the Australian opened with a tiebreak. These two have never met before so it might take a while for them to have a look at each other and work the opponent out, in which time we can go all the way in the opening set at a decent price.
Women’s Betting
There are two fairly obvious bets on the women’s card on Tuesday with the first of them coming on Centre Court where we have a vulnerable defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, who could easily come unstuck against Alexandra Eala, the woman who made it all the way to the final in Eastbourne last week. Krejcikova was in the quarter final of that tournament before pulling out and injury concerns are pretty strong around the Czech and you wonder if she didn’t have the honour of defending this prestigious title whether she should be here at all. Eala beat Dayana Yastremska and Jelena Ostapenko on her way to the final at Devonshire Park last week and after a couple of days off she is primed to lay down a real challenge to a physically uncertain and vulnerable Krejcikova.
The other bet I like is a result of an injury too. Jodie Burrage actually beat Caty McNally here a couple of years ago when there were no injury issues for the American so now that she is covered in them you would think the Briton is a fair bet even at 4/5. Burrage is just 2-4 on grass this season but she ran the in form Amanda Anisimova close at Queens and had match points against Krejcikova at Eastbourne last week so she is playing better than her results have suggested. McNally has had a lot of injury problems over the last couple of years and went down to a fading Victoria Azarenka in Bad Homburg qualifying last week. Her wins this season have been on the ITF circuit and so this feels like a great chance for Burrage to pick up a Wimbledon main draw win.
