Wimbledon 2025 – Day 7 Tips and Betting Preview

The second week begins at Wimbledon on Sunday when the first half of the last 16 matches in the two singles draws are played out on what looks like it could be a very intriguing day of tennis in the grass court Grand Slam.

The majority of the action comes on the top main courts now with just two matches taking place on the outside courts so the intensity and the profile of the event is about to increase with a decent cast list on Sunday.

Centre Court

We still have three matches taking place on the Centre Court and we begin the day with two unseeded players having a great chance to reach the quarter finals when Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova meets the one remaining British woman in the draw in Sonay Kartal. The world number one Aryna Sabalenka follows them onto the court when she has a meeting with Elise Mertens to overcome. The final match on this court is the only men’s match taking place on it and it sees Carlos Alcaraz continuing his title defence when he takes on the Russian player Andrey Rublev.

Court 1

The number five seed Taylor Fritz who has been something of a marathon man in this tournament so far having played 14 of the 15 sets he could have done will open up the schedule over on Court 1 on Sunday when he takes on the unseeded Jordan Thompson. Two more unseeded men follow them onto the court when the one British man left in the competition is on show when Cameron Norrie meets Nicolas Jarry. There is a women’s match to round off the schedule and it should be an entertaining one as Amanda Anisimova takes on Linda Noskova.

Court 2

That leaves us with just the two matches to take place over on Court 2 on Sunday, one from the men’s draw and one from the women’s. It is the men who start out the action when the former Olympic silver medallist Karen Khachanov meets the Polish unseeded player Kamil Majchrzak before two unseeded women have a huge chance to make the quarter final of a Grand Slam when the lucky loser Solan Sierra looks to continue her fairytale run when she takes on the German player Laura Siegemund who had a fine win over the Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the last round.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day on Sunday with the first one coming over on Court 2 where the amount of tennis that Karen Khachanov has played in the last couple of rounds has to catch up with him at some point. He went five sets and 3h43 in the second round against Shintaro Mochizuki and then 3h51 in coming through against Nuno Borges in a final set tiebreaker in the last round. It might be that Kamil Majchrzak isn’t good enough to get the better of the Russian but he almost has to lay down a decent challenge and if he only does that then he should be able to remain within 4.5 games of him. The Pole went five sets against Matteo Berrettini in the first round but hasn’t dropped a set since then and looks to be hitting the ball big. The last time these two met on grass Khachanov won in a deciding tiebreak in Hertogenbosch three years ago. I think the Pole keeps this close if not actually beat the Russian here.

The other bet comes in the women’s draw where Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has the tools to get rid of Sonay Kartal. Kartal has done well this week having opened up her draw when she took care of Jelena Ostapenko in the first round but the Latvian is one of the most hit or miss players out there so that wasn’t a massive surprise. Since then Kartal has been on easy street but she goes up a level in opposition here. Pavlyuchenkova knows all about the Centre Court and its atmosphere which is a massive advantage here but she has also been tested by Ajla Tomljanovic and Naomi Osaka this week while Ashlyn Krueger was a decent scalp in the second round too. I don’t think Kartal matches up to any of them on this surface and so I would expect the much more experienced Russian to come through here.
