World Cup 2018 – Group B Final Matches Betting Preview

The final two matches in Group B of the World Cup take place on Monday evening and three teams go into them still in with a chance of qualifying when both matches are played simultaneously on the evening.

Morocco are the only side who know they will be going home after the final match. They take on Spain who will top the group if they win by more than Portugal do. Portugal take on Iran in the other match with Portugal through if they avoid defeat and Iran progressing if they can find a victory.

Spain vs Morocco

All eyes will be on Spain to see if they can make it into the knockout stages where it could be that they come up against a number of Uruguayans who ply their trade in the Spanish league. Morocco have the plane home booked but will want to put on a show before they leave.

Spain have been made to work hard to get into the position whereby they are in control of their own destiny. They were forced to come from behind against Portugal on two occasions and then Iran built a brick wall which eventually they were able to cave in to set them up for a likely spot in the last 16.

Morocco have been good to watch in this tournament but they must be wondering how they are yet to find the back of the net. They have created plenty of chances against two meagre defences but they have lacked the composure to put the ball home. With no pressure on them in this match though they will hope they can deliver the goods and send their fans home happy.

Iran vs Portugal

Iran go into their final match of the group stage knowing that they must find a second win of the tournament if they are to remain in it. A draw will be perfectly good enough for Portugal but if they want to win the group they will need to win and hope they better the Spain result.

There has been nothing pretty about the Iran performances in the competition so far but sadly for the connoisseurs of football it has been effective. They have defended deep and in huge numbers and occasionally looked to counter in among a mixture of thuggery and time wasting.

To be fair if you took Cristiano Ronaldo out there hasn’t been much to like about Portugal in the competition either but we’ve come to expect that now. The annoying thing is that as a team they showed what they can offer against Spain. All too often they play to the histrionics rather than the immense flair that is in their team. You hope they’ll still play for a win here but with a draw being good enough it might be foolish to bank on it.

Betting

This has been a tough group to bet on throughout with draw potential in every match and nothing has changed going into these games either. Spain should beat Morocco but I didn’t like the way they were attacked by Iran when they went ahead against them and with no pressure on the Africans we might finally see them score.

The best bet in this group looks to come in the form of a low scoring affair between Iran and Portugal. I don’t expect Portugal to play too expansive in this match but by the same token there is no way Iran can open up too early and allow Ronaldo and his friends space to do their thing in the dangerous areas of the pitch. Iran kept out wave after wave of Spain attacks in their previous game so I don’t expect them to ship plenty here. They do look short of top class up front though so under 2.25 goals should land here.
