World Cup 2018 – South Korea vs Mexico Betting Preview

The middle match of what looks like a tasty Saturday in the World Cup sees the second round of fixtures in Group F getting underway. Mexico caused the shock of the tournament so far and they take on South Korea.

South Korea were edged out by a Sweden penalty in their first match and with defending champions Germany to come for them you feel this is a must win contest for the 2002 semi-finalists. Mexico are all but through with a win here.

South Korea

There is no doubt that South Korea will be disappointed not to get anything out of their match against Sweden. In truth even a draw was probably unlikely to do anything for them but one moment of madness cost them dearly with that and now they face a real uphill battle to make it out of this group.

While Sweden only beat Korea with a penalty they did have a significant number of chances which should worry Korea. Another thing that should concern them is the fact that they never really created much in the other direction. Sweden look the weakest of the three opponents that the Koreans will face which is another issue.

Mexico

While I think shrewd judges gave Mexico a punchers chance of knocking off Germany I’m not sure as many saw them doing so in the manner and near enough dominating style in which they did it. They were a breath of fresh air in attacking areas and when they did have to defend they did it successfully against a side with a lot of ability.

Mexico are usually a very good group stage team in this tournament and it appears as though they are going to get out of the group once again. Their win over Germany has put them in control of the section and if they can ram home that advantage they will win the group and avoid Brazil in the second round which could be extremely significant.

Team News

South Korea are expected to make changes for this match although keeper Jo Hyeonwoo is not expected to be one of them. Son Heung-min is once again expected to be looked upon to provide the inspiration.

The Mexico coach has suggested that there was a flu bug going around his side prior to their win over Germany but it appears that has passed and he could be ready to name an unchanged side for this one.

Betting

I don’t see South Korea getting too much joy from this match either. If Mexico did only tire late on against Germany because of a flu bug then you have to expect them to go for a lot longer here and by the time they start to ease up they could be out of sight if they play like they did against Germany.

South Korea look so limited in attack and I wouldn’t expect them to see an awful lot of the ball in this match which must go down as a major concern. They might put up a bit of a fight given that they can’t afford to lose this one but I just see Mexico as the stronger side in every department and I expect that to show in the result.
