World Cup of Darts 2025 – Day 2 Afternoon Tips and Betting Preview

The group stage of the World Cup of Darts concludes on Friday when two sessions of action takes place out on Frankfurt on a day where 40 nations will be whittled down to the 16 who will compete in knockout darts over the weekend.

The 12 unseeded teams who were not on show on Thursday open up their campaign against the losing teams on Friday afternoon before the winners face the new teams on Friday in the evening. Although we know the evening fixtures, the afternoon results will have significant impacts on those matches so we’ll keep our preview to the first session of the day.

First Four Matches

We begin in Group G on Friday where the tournament life is on the line for Lithuania when they take on a France side who make their bow in the event here. When they are done Chinese Taipei will look to stay alive when they compete in an all-Asian clash between themselves and India. Croatia were surprisingly beaten in their opening match against Japan and their match against Switzerland is now must-win for Boris Krcmar and his partner. The last match in the opening third of the afternoon session sees China entering the competition when they face Gibraltar in Group D.

Middle Four Matches

We get the middle part of the afternoon underway with Canada looking to stay alive in the event when they compete against Denmark in Group F. USA were well beaten by Hong Kong in their opening match and are likely to exit the tournament now but a win against Bahrain will keep their interests alive for a few hours. The second half of the afternoon sees Devon Petersen and South Africa taking on Norway while the middle third of the session concludes with Latvia looking to ride the form of Madars Razma when they go up against the Philippines.

Final Four Matches

Italy had little to offer against the Netherlands on Thursday evening and in all likelihood their race is run but they will still want to get a win against Hungary. Jose de Sousa is back on stage for the next match when his Portugal side take on Singapore which means a first appearance this year for Paul Lim. The penultimate match of the session sees Spain taking on the former champions Australia before we round off the afternoon with Finland aiming to stay alive in the tournament when they host an Argentina who make their debut in the competition after coming through the Latin America and Caribbean qualifier.

Betting

Two bets interest me over the course of the afternoon session on Friday. I can only assume that Latvia are the odds on favourites against Philippines based on the reputation of Madars Razma and the fact that they have already played a match on the stage because I didn’t see anything to suggest that they are going to be better than the Asian side. Philippines make their debut in the tournament here but Lourence Ilagan and Paolo Nebrida are no strangers to big stages so I expect them to go well. Latvia hit one score of 140 or more on Thursday. Razma doesn’t score heavy enough to get Latvia clear of opponents so they’ll be relying on Philippines missing doubles here. That might be a fruitless quest.

The other bet is for Argentina to beat Finland. This is a bit more of a shot in the dark because the Argentina pairing will be on this stage for the first time but they saw off Guyana and Bahamas in qualifying for this which means that they got the better of Rashad Sweeting. In the 40 legs they played on the day of that qualifier they hit six 180s and were seven darts into the holy nine at one point. This is more of a fade of Finland but if Argentina settle they can definitely win this. They might not have much to beat. Finland were statistically the worst side on show on Thursday, averaging a pitiful 71.83 and not having a single score of 140 or more in defeat to New Zealand. They only had one dart at a double too. Unless there is a significant improvement in Finland, and I’m struggling to find the evidence that there will be, it wouldn’t be a massive shock if Argentina won this.
