World Cup Qualifying – Sunday 9th October European Matches Betting Preview

The second half of this week’s set of European Qualifiers in the World Cup Qualifying competition begin on Sunday night with those sides who were in action on Thursday back for a bit more as the tables begin to take shape and we start to get an idea of the sides who are in the frame for a place in Russia in two years time.

As with Saturday we have matches across two kick off times in the three groups on show so the action is nicely spread out for a few bets which we’ll look to take advantage of.

Group D

This group begins with Chris Coleman’s Wales side looking for another win when they host Georgia in a match they should win. Austria head to Serbia in the match of the night while the Republic of Ireland will be aiming for a six point weekend when they travel to Moldova for what is a must win game if they are to be competitive in this campaign.

Group G

Israel go up against Liechtenstein in the early kick off in this group with the home side huge favourites. Spain and Italy face tricky away trips in the later matches. Spain head to Albania while Italy go to Macedonia.

Group I

There are a couple of early kick offs in this group which involve Finland looking to recover from their heartbreaking defeat to Iceland when they host Croatia while Ukraine should run in the goals against Kosovo. The late game should be entertaining as Iceland play Turkey.

Betting

I’m taking three bets on this card. The first comes in the Wales vs Georgia match where I fancy the hosts to win to nil. They will be without Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey but that might just make them focus even more on keeping the back door shut knowing full well that in Gareth Bale they have a man who can win any game for them.

Georgia have just been beaten in Ireland without scoring and I don’t think Ireland are as good defensively as Wales or indeed as lively in attacking areas as the Welsh so the even money on Chris Coleman’s men winning without conceding looks good to me.

Croatia did me a decent turn on Thursday night with a comfortable win in Kosovo and I see no reason why they won’t follow that up in Finland here. I watched Finland on Thursday night and to say they rode their luck before eventually surrendering would be an understatement.

Finland did bag a couple of goals against Iceland but I don’t expect them to see enough of the ball to do much damage in attacking areas here and it is hard to see Croatia not winning the game off the back of that. I think they’ll win by a decent margin too.

Lastly in one of the later games I like the look of goals in the Iceland vs Turkey match. Iceland built up a reputation for being a tight, hard to beat side in the last qualifying campaign but they look to have opened up a little bit since Lars Lagerback left his position after Euro2016.

Turkey like to play an attacking game which may well suit the style of Iceland so I can see this one igniting quite quickly and the near even money on there being more than 2.25 goals is perfectly attractive to me given that we’ll get half our stake back if they fall short and only bank two goals.
