We are down to the semi-final of the World Grand Prix with four players remaining in the Hong Kong showpiece and on Saturday we will find out the identity of the two men who will move through to compete for the title on Sunday.
We had 32 form men arriving in Hong Kong for this tournament and four world champions remain so we are guaranteed a wonderful finale to the opening leg of the Players Series event with a sizzling Saturday in store for us.
Early Session
Neil Robertson vs Shaun Murphy
The opening semi-final sees two men who have won tournaments this season looking to go to within a win of doubling their tally for the campaign when the English Open winner Neil Robertson takes on The Masters champion Shaun Murphy.
Robertson has looked very good so far this week. He did an interview after his opening match where he claimed he had practiced really hard for two weeks leading up to this tournament because of some repair work done on his cue and he was able to hit shots he wasn’t previously able to and we’ve seen signs of that in his confidence in the matches this week. Murphy has been a little up and down this week. He didn’t look great in the opening two rounds, although I attributed that to his level of favouritism but when he didn’t have so much of that in the quarter final against John Higgins he looked a lot better. He is probably back to having more expectation on him here and I hope that results in him not being as good because I am effectively on Robertson at 7/1 for this match having backed him outright before a ball was hit this week and I quite like where I’m at with that bet so I’m happy to let that ride rather than get involved here again.

Later Session
Judd Trump vs Stuart Bingham
The second semi-final sees two more world champions on show when the world number one Judd Trump looks to make another final on what he would consider home soil when he takes on the man who had the best night of his career at the Crucible Theatre 10 years ago in Stuart Bingham.
This was looking like a Trump vs Mark Selby match for most of Friday evening as Bingham trailed Selby 4-2 in that match but he turned it around nicely and ordinarily would have a free shot at Trump after a really positive week, however a win for Bingham here would get him into the Players Championship and set up a shot at a return to the top 16 in time for the World Championship. Trump doesn’t have any ranking issues and if he plays like he did against Hossein Vafaei on Friday then he’ll win this. He made four tons in a 5-0 rout of the Iranian but you have to think that Bingham will have more about him in this one. It is hard to go against Trump here but we see all the time that a spectacular performance is often followed by a struggling one and it wouldn’t be a complete surprise were that to be the case here so the bet I’ll go with is for Bingham to make a century. In five best of 11 matches against Trump he has made a ton in three of them and made 93 in one of the other two. Bingham has made a century this week and if he can relax and play his way into this semi-final a big break certainly isn’t beyond him whether he wins or loses.
