It is ‘Moving Day’ at the World Seniors Darts Championship on Saturday when the second round concludes and all four quarter finals are played in what looks like a fantastic day of action inside the Circus Tavern in Purfleet.
There was a feeling that the tournament went up a notch on Friday with some stunning performances from the expected runners for this event and throughout the course of Saturday that is a trend that should definitely continue.
Afternoon Session
It is in the afternoon that the second round of matches conclude in the tournament. We get to see the three-time world champion John Part on show in the first game of the day when he takes on John Walton with the legend that is John Lowe back in tournament darts in the second game of the afternoon. He meets Dave Prins and then when they are done the 1983 world champion Keith Deller goes up on stage to face Larry Butler in a good looking game. The afternoon session is rounded off by the former women’s world champion Lisa Ashton. She will meet Terry Jenkins for a place in the last eight.

Evening Session
This is the session of play where the four quarter finals will be played out although at the time of writing we only know the confirmed identity of one of those games. The first match will see the winner of the afternoon clash between John Part and John Walton taking on whoever comes through between Lisa Ashton and Terry Jenkins. When they are done whoever prevails between John Lowe and Dave Prins earlier in the day will face off against Robert Thornton. We know that the third match of the evening will see Phil Taylor going up against Kevin Painter in a repeat of the 2004 PDC World Championship final. The last of the quarter finals sees Martin Adams going up against whoever comes through the afternoon match between Keith Deller and Larry Butler.
Betting
While I’m tempted to back Keith Deller to beat Larry Butler in the afternoon session after hearing in multiple places that Deller has been pounding the practice board and is taking this very seriously, I’m a little wary of how well the ‘Bald Eagle’ played in the opening round on Friday and if he follows the pattern of a number of players of improving with a game under his belt he is entitled to be very tough to beat. That leads me to a bet in the evening quarter final which has already been finalised.
That sees Kevin Painter to beat Phil Taylor. I don’t expect Taylor to be as indifferent and as sloppy as he was on Friday night in his win over Peter Manley in this match but he has to find 10 points on his average and for a player who hasn’t played competitive darts for four years that isn’t going to be easy. Painter is no longer at the top level of the game but he has shown already this weekend that he can maintain a decent standard for a long period of time and he has also shown us that when he hits a purple patch he is still extremely good. Taylor will have his moments in this match but the consistency and quality of Painter makes him an attractive bet at 7/4.
