World Seniors Darts Championship 2022 – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The inaugural World Seniors Darts Championship comes to a close on Sunday when the two semi-finals and the final will be played out on what should be a fantastic day of darts inside the Circus Tavern in Purfleet.

This famous venue has crowned many world champions in the past and the coronation of another will take place on Sunday. The afternoon session sees the two semi-finals being played while the final comes in the evening. If the semi-finals are over early I’ll try and preview the final but we’re guaranteed an interest in it anyway.

Kevin Painter vs Robert Thornton

The opening semi-final of the tournament was expected to contain the favourite Phil Taylor but Kevin Painter didn’t receive that particular memo and it is he who will take on Robert Thornton for the first place in the final.

Painter has seen off the legend that is Taylor, the most recent world champion in the field in Wayne Warren and a very competent Tony O’Shea throughout the draw so far and the fact he has seen off capable opposition might serve him well in this semi-final. I say that because Thornton hasn’t played anyone of note so far. While it was refreshing and good to see Bob Anderson and Trina Gulliver in the tournament neither were really ever going to be a threat and Dave Prins never showed up against him in the quarter final. Anderson actually has the highest average against Thornton but that was just 80.91 and you know Painter will better that so Thornton will be under pressure for the first time in the tournament here. We don’t truly know how he will react to that because he beats himself up at the best of times so the value in this opening semi-final is with the battle hardened Painter, who has played three very solid matches to date.

Terry Jenkins vs Martin Adams

The second semi-final of the tournament sees our two pre-event outright picks battling it out when Terry Jenkins takes on the only remaining former world champion in the field in Martin Adams in what should be a tasty clash.

Jenkins has thrown some nice darts this weekend. He has averaged 84.32 in defeating Roland Scholten in the opening round and 86.58 in beating Lisa Ashton in the second round. He was at his worst in the quarter final but that was his second match in the day and that caught him out a little bit which is understandable. Adams has seen off two good players in Richie Howson and Larry Butler and has warmed into both matches so you would imagine this extended format will suit him as he has even longer to get up to speed. I think Adams will win this but I’m leaving it alone and watching to see who will throw for me in the final.
