World Series of Darts Finals – Tournament Outright Betting Preview

Another weekend is fast approaching which means we must be gearing up for another darts tournament and the event in question this time around is the World Series of Darts Finals which will be played over two days on Saturday and Sunday in Glasgow.

This is a weird sort of tournament in that for most of the year the elite in the game have travelled the world to pick up points and now they have to take on 16 seemingly random players to compete for the title.

2015 – Michael van Gerwen

The Format

There is a bit of a weirder format used for this tournament with the eight seeded players going through to the second round and the 16 invitees battling it out in the opening session of play on Saturday afternoon to meet a seed on Saturday evening. Those matches are all the best of 11 legs.

Sunday’s play features the quarter finals over the best of 19 legs in the afternoon before the event concludes over the best of 21 legs with the semi-finals and final on Sunday evening.

Top Half

The four seeded players in the top half of the draw are Michael van Gerwen, Raymond Barneveld, Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall so if they all make it through to Sunday this will be a competitive section.

Among those aiming to stop them are Gerwyn Price, Simon Whitlock, Jelle Klaasen and Kim Huybrechts which only adds to the competitiveness of this half of the draw. Max Hopp, Steve Beaton, Cristo Reyes and Brendan Dolan make up this half.

Bottom Half

There are some big names seeded in this half too with the world champion Gary Anderson heading the way. He is joined by Peter Wright, Phil Taylor and James Wade when comes to the seeds and those four would make good quarter finals.

Last week’s runner up Mensur Suljovic is in this half. He faces Robert Thornton in the first round. The other qualifiers in this part of the draw are Joe Murnan, Joe Cullen, Daryl Gurney, Josh Payne, Benito van de Pas and Michael Smith.

Betting

It is hard to find a lot of value in the outright markets these days with van Gerwen so dominant but someone will face him in the final and while he has a tricky route through there is no reason why Mensur Suljovic should be 40/1 to win the tournament.

He showed last week that he has the beating of Taylor now and over the best of 11 that chance is heightened and from there the tournament is likely to open right up. Not many players are playing better darts than the Austrian at the minute and nor have them for the last three months. We’re getting to the stage where 40/1 is a bit of an insult on Suljovic. He’s almost an obvious bet here.
