The second day of action at the World Series of Darts Finals takes place on Saturday evening where the seeded players enter the tournament and immediately elevate the profile of what is becoming a big event to kick off a good run of TV competitions.
We would have to say that the opening round on Friday never really hit the expected heights so the tournament needs the big names not just to grace the stage but to fire some decent darts when they are on it to fire this event into life.
First Four Matches
We begin with the number one seed on Saturday evening with what might be the pick of the second round matches as Rob Cross takes on Jonny Clayton in a true heavyweight showdown. When they are done two men with wins on the European Tour meet as Luke Humphries faces Krzysztof Ratajski, who is on a decent unbeaten run at the minute. Gerwyn Price then begins his title defence when he meets Keegan Brown before we head to the halfway point of the evening with Michael van Gerwen gracing his home stage. He’ll take on William O’Connor.

Later Four Matches
If the opening match of the night isn’t the pick of them then the one to open up the second half of the evening could well be as the world champion Michael Smith takes on another home star in Raymond van Barneveld. Two recent UK Open champions meet in the third to last game of the evening when the World Matchplay winner Nathan Aspinall goes up against Danny Noppert. Peter Wright gets the chance to turn a very indifferent season around when he takes on Haupai Puha in the penultimate game of the night before we close off the action with Dimitri Van den Bergh facing Ricky Evans.
Betting
Danny Noppert was the only winner on Friday night who came out of the session having put in the sort of performance you would have expected from such a class field and I think the fact that he has had a match on this stage, coupled with the fact that he is on home soil here and will have the crowd right behind him makes him worthy of backing against the World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall, who it must be said hasn’t had the best time since his win in Blackpool.
That is certainly nothing new. We often see players stuttering after such a milestone win in their career so Aspinall certainly isn’t the first that has happened to and won’t be the last. It hasn’t been all doom and gloom with Aspinall making the final in New Zealand but he lost in the first round in Australia and had an early exit in the European Tour event last week and with the crowd potentially against them he feels vulnerable. Noppert averaged over 105 on Friday night and if he is close to that level here then he can come through at a decent price.
