2016 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 3 Betting Preview

The four groups that have played in the evening sessions in the Grand Slam of Darts so far conclude on Monday night as the last 16 of the tournament begins to take shape. Some players toeing the oche in Wolverhampton on Monday have already been eliminated and some are through. Others need another win to make it.

With these groups finishing first it means we get to see the likes of Adrian Lewis, Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson in action on what is set up to be a hugely dramatic evening of arrers.

Group A

The matches in this group are the fourth and fifth matches of the evening. First up Michael van Gerwen takes on Max Hopp. The Dutchman is already through while Hopp will also qualify with a win here. Defeat for the German youngster opens the door for Brendan Dolan and Martin Adams who follow that match. If Adams wins leg difference comes into play assuming Hopp loses. A Dolan win would see him through again if Hopp loses.

Group D

The third match of the evening is the first one in this group and it sees the already qualified Phil Taylor taking on the eliminated Darren Webster. In the final match of the night Ian White takes on Darryl Fitton in what is a straight knockout to finish behind Phil Taylor and make the last 16.

Group E

This group is set up like Group D. The world champion Gary Anderson is already through and a win over Alan Norris in the second match of the night will confirm he wins the group. Were Anderson to lose then Glen Durrant could win the group if he beats Nathan Derry in what is a straight knockout in the penultimate match of the evening.

Group H

This group gets the night underway when the already through Benito van de Pas faces the man many expected to progress from the group but already even at this stage can no longer do that in Adrian Lewis. Scott Mitchell and Chris Dobey meet in a straight knockout in the third last game of the night. Van de Pas will win the group if he beats Lewis but leg difference will decide it if he doesn’t.

Betting

As with the first two days of action this isn’t a night to go conkers deep into. As it is we already have a bet running for us having taken Scott Mitchell to qualify at 2/1. That is now effectively 2/1 on Mitchell to beat Dobey which looks favourable with the youngster having to get back up after a ground breaking win on Sunday night.

In terms of bets for Monday night I’m only going with one and it is on a man who I’ve already profited on this week in Brendan Dolan. I don’t like going against Martin Adams but I have to because he hasn’t looked himself in this tournament, understandably so given his health issues.

Dolan has played some nice stuff in this tournament. He saw off Max Hopp in the first match and averaged 95 against van Gerwen who was always going to be too good for him. Whatever happens in the earlier match Dolan must win here whereas Adams could be out if Hopp has won. That result is irrelevant to me though, on what we’ve seen so far I fancy a Dolan win.
