2016 Grand Slam of Darts – Final Day Betting Preview

After eight days of fantastic darting action the Grand Slam of Darts concludes with a busy schedule on Sunday. The semi-finals and the final of the competition will all be played out at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton with four darts superstars looking to entertain us as well as bag a major title and a significant first prize.

Michael van Gerwen vs Peter Wright

This is a familiar match up in darts at the minute with the two having last met at the World Series of Darts finals in Glasgow two weeks ago. Van Gerwen won 11-9 on that occasion but Peter Wright stuck with his man and had a massive chance to level at 10-10 but failed. Since then Wright has arrived here and looked majestic.

Michael van Gerwen is the man right now but even he will admit he will have his work cut out here. He has been on cruise control with a lovely draw all week but he will be tested in this one and after winning so much recently it will be interesting to see what he has left in the tank.

I might be mad or I might be on to something but I think Peter Wright’s time is coming and I think it could be here. At the very least I think he’ll push van Gerwen really close and to be honest based on their recent meetings a handicap line of 5.5 legs is borderline insulting. Wright is playing well and if van Gerwen misses doubles at the right time the Scot could just get that elusive win over his Dutch rival in a major tournament.

Gary Anderson vs James Wade

These two go back a long way and in recent times you would have to say Wade has had the edge having won three of their last four meetings including their last one at the European Championship when he whitewashed the world champion 6-0.

Anderson was getting used to the glasses then and was nothing like he can be but he’s a different beast this week. The way he rallied to beat Barneveld in the quarter final and even the quality he delivered under pressure against Danny Noppert tells me Anderson is at the top of his game and it is look out everyone else when that is the case.

Despite Wade’s good recent run against Anderson I expect the Scot to win this one but the prices and the lines are all about right so I won’t get involved in this semi-final.

Outright

You can make a case for any of the four men to come through and win the tournament from here on in but I’m going to throw a couple of nuggets at Gary Anderson. He is playing some genuinely superb darts at the minute. I think he’ll beat Wade and he won’t fear whoever he would meet in the final.

He has openly admitted he loves playing van Gerwen while Wright is beatable too given that it would be a first major final for him that hasn’t been against van Gerwen and he would put himself under pressure to win it. 7/2 looks more than acceptable on Anderson beating Wade and then turning it on in the final.
