The Monday Night Football this week comes from Turf Moor as Burnley host Newcastle to close out the Premier League weekend. Both sides have made industrious beginnings to the season but a win here will see them end the round of matches in the top seven in the table which would represent a good first ten matches.
Burnley
The Clarets saw a six match unbeaten run come to an end last time out but there is no disgrace in losing to Manchester City these days. Having avoided defeat against the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea this season we have no reason to doubt the credentials of this Burnley outfit and they will be eager to get back to winning ways here.
As ever a large part of their success has been their defence. They have conceded just nine goals in their nine matches but three of those came in that defeat at the Etihad Stadium last weekend. A concern has been scoring goals but then when you consider the calibre of sides they have played against we can cut them some slack.
Newcastle
It has been a good return to the Premier League so far for Newcastle. After losing their opening two matches they have only lost one since and have gradually been getting more and more accustomed to the level. If you were being critical of their form the concern would be that Tottenham and Liverpool aside they haven’t played anyone of note.
Newcastle have generally gone well defensively this season. They have only conceded eight goals all campaign and two of those was against Tottenham on the opening day of the campaign. They are averaging more than a goal a game too which when you consider Rafael Benitez spent all summer looking for attacking players is not too shabby.
Team News
Chris Wood is a doubt for the home side which is not ideal because Sam Vokes has been suffering from an abdominal injury. Nakhi Wells is fit again though and could make his Burnley debut in this match.
Rafael Benitez will have a fully fit squad to choose from with the exception of Paul Dummett after Dwight Gayle recovered from a groin injury which has kept him out recently.

Betting
I think this will be a tight match. I think both sides can be filed under the well organised tab and I’m not sure either will have the creativity to open the other up regularly. There could be an element of a stalemate to this one.
Both sides have good defensive records and you would be hard pushed to call either of them free scoring so we could be in for something of a war of attrition. With that in mind the under 2.25 goals looks the best way to play the game in my eyes.
