2017-18 Premier League – Thursday 19th April Matches Betting Preview

The midweek set of matches in the Premier League concludes on Thursday when the final two games take place on what could be a big night in the division for at least two of the sides who are in action.

The caveat of the semi-final of the FA Cup on Sunday hovers over both matches so a little bit of guesswork is needed to work out how the two matches will play out but one thing is for sure, given the situation we should be royally entertained.

Burnley vs Chelsea

The battle for European football is the overriding issue in the televised match on Thursday evening when Burnley in seventh take on Chelsea in fifth. To be fair Chelsea are going to finish fifth whatever happens in this match barring something extraordinary but Burnley can overtake Arsenal and move into sixth with a win here.

I will be interested to see how Chelsea play in this match. They had been wretched for 2.5 matches prior to an amazing turnaround out of the blue at Southampton on Saturday. I have to believe that the main interest for Chelsea will be Sunday’s semi-final so they are likely to make a number of changes for this match.

That should play right into Burnley’s hands. Burnley have already been to the Bridge and beaten Chelsea this season and I fancy they will beat them again. The Clarets have won their last five matches and are on something of a roll right now. Their forwards are in great form and with Chelsea having their eyes elsewhere the +0.5 Asian line on Burnley is far too big.

Leicester City vs Southampton

The match away from the TV cameras in the UK comes from the King Power Stadium as Leicester City host FA Cup semi-finalists and relegation threatened Southampton in a match you would think the visitors simply have to win.

They go into this match five points adrift of safety with just five matches left in the season which highlights their need to win. You would think their focus will be purely on this match but somewhere in the heads of their players the cup semi-final must be lingering. That is only natural.

Leicester aren’t really playing for anything here but I would imagine their players will be told they will be because Claude Puel is not going to want to lose to Southampton. In actual fact Southampton’s plight and their need to win is likely to play right into the hands of Leicester.

Southampton have to attack and Leicester enjoy attacking so I’m expecting a high scoring match here. The first goal will be crucial. If Leicester score it Southampton will have to take risks to win the game but if Southampton score it we saw on Saturday they can’t defend a lead so over 2.5 looks a really good thing here.
