The next round of League 2 fixtures begins a day early this week as there is one match on Friday night. That sees two sides who have begun the campaign strongly doing battle when Notts County host Accrington Stanley.
The caveat to this match is that given the impressive starts both sides have made this season the winners here will be top of the table overnight until the remainder of the matches on Saturday.
Notts County
The Magpies have bounced back nicely from their defeat on the opening day of the season. In fairness losing to Coventry, especially at the Ricoh, might not look too bad come the end of the campaign. Their reaction to that has been very strong. They have won three matches on the trot and should be full of confidence.
The latest of those wins came at Wycombe last week and while they were gifted some of their goals the fact they notched four times will have further improved confidence in a side who are making many more strides under Kevin Nolan than I expected they would do. They look a good side on paper.
Accrington Stanley
Once again Stanley were written off in most places heading into the campaign although we weren’t in keeping with that. We thought they would go well this season and the early signs are that will be the case. They need to be a little more ruthless although that is difficult for a small squad admittedly.
One problem for Stanley going into this match is the schedule. They were playing in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night and getting a bit of a run around by West Brom so this match coming on the Friday night is less than ideal it must be said. That said this is a side who face adversity all the time so it might just inspire them.
Team News
Jonathan Forte is pushing for a starting spot for Notts County after he came off the bench to score at Wycombe last weekend but Kevin Nolan could name an unchanged side.
Accrington will be forced into a change from their last league match as Omar Beckles has left to go to Shrewsbury. That leaves them light at the back but Leeds loanee Mallik Wilks could make his debut. Tyler Forbes is struggling to be fit.

Betting
Initially when this fixture was moved to the Friday night I was not going to bet on it but Accrington’s tough game in midweek has to give Notts County an edge here. County arrive with three wins on the spin and should be full of confidence and I fancy they will go on and win this one.
I like Accrington this season and I still think they will go on to have a good campaign but they are light at the back heading in here and the schedule has very much gone against them. They could find this Notts County side tough to tame so I’m with the home side here.
