The main leagues across the world might be having a week off for the international matches to take place but there is no respite in Sky Bet League 2 where another around of fixtures takes place as we reach the end of the opening quarter of the campaign on Saturday.
We have a live match to look at which is the early kick off before the rest of the division is in action at the usual time. There are some big matches on the schedule too so it has the feel of a big day about it.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows (3pm unless stated):
Barnet v Coventry City (12.30pm)
Accrington Stanley v Luton Town
Cambridge United v Wycombe Wanderers
Carlisle United v Exeter City
Cheltenham Town v Swindon Town
Colchester United v Mansfield Town
Crewe Alexandra v Stevenage
Lincoln City v Chesterfield
Morecambe v Crawley Town
Newport County v Yeovil Town
Notts County v Forest Green Rovers
Port Vale v Grimsby Town

Big Matches
The match of the day comes from the Wham Stadium where third placed Accrington Stanley host Luton Town in a battle of sides who are eyeing up bigger things come the end of the campaign. Exeter City head to Brunton Park to take on a Carlisle United side whose season they ended in the play-offs last season while there is a top against bottom clash when Notts County host Forest Green Rovers at Meadow Lane.
Best of the Rest
The live match sees Barnet playing host to a Coventry City side who have found their grove in recent weeks while later in the afternoon promotion chasers Lincoln City and Mansfield Town host Chesterfield and head to Colchester respectively. Morecambe host Crawley in a match between two sides expected to struggle while at Whaddon Road there is a local derby of sorts when Cheltenham Town host Swindon Town.
Betting
I’m going on the attack in this round of matches. I’ll begin in one of the big matches of the day where Carlisle United host Exeter City. Generally when these two meet they collide nicely to produce goals. They met four times last season and there were at least five goals in each of them and the season before they played out a 2-2 in Devon. Exeter have been in good scoring form recently with Reuben Reid and Jayden Stockley looking in form while Carlisle banged in five against Crewe a couple of weeks back. Carlisle should be up for this having lost to Exeter in the playoffs last year and I’m expecting the crowd in Cumbria to see at least three goals.
My other three bets are all on home sides who I think can feast on weakened prey. Notts County are the first of those. They have only dropped two points at home all season and that was in a match they were 2-0 up in. Forest Green have really struggled to get to grips with the league and their only point on the road came at Port Vale which isn’t saying a whole lot. This looks like an ideal chance for the leaders to bounce back from last week’s defeat.
I watched Newport County at close quarters last week and while they lost 3-1 at Luton I don’t think they should be too downhearted. Luton played dream football in the first half but Newport won the second half of that match which should have made them feel better about things. They host a Yeovil side who are not good on their travels and if that wasn’t bad enough Harry Redknapp is being used as a consultant now. What he knows about League 2 probably won’t take long to tell. Newport shouldn’t be written off because of last week so I’m on them to bounce back.
Finally the ultra-direct approach of Lincoln City can do for a poor Chesterfield side. Chesterfield have a new manager but he hasn’t been able to work any magic yet and it will take a lot for his players to stand up to the physical and direct style Lincoln have. I remember speaking to people involved with Luton after they played at Sincil Bank and they were happy with a point citing not many going there and getting anything this season. I don’t think Chesterfield will buck that trend.
