2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Tuesday 17th April Matches Betting Preview

We have a potentially pivotal night in League 2 on Tuesday when the promotion race takes centre stage on a night where we could see the first two promoted sides crowned. It could also be a big night at the bottom of the table in an evening where we have three fixtures taking place.

Accrington Stanley vs Yeovil Town

It could be the biggest night in the history of Accrington Stanley as they have a second go at getting the victory they need to confirm promotion to the third tier for the first time. To secure that they will need to see off Yeovil Town at the Wham Stadium.

I think this is an important evening for Accrington as two years ago they made a complete mess of getting over the line and they have already bungled one chance to get promoted this season when they could only draw with Exeter on Saturday. In fairness that wasn’t a bad result but the more chances they miss the bigger the hurdle becomes and with Wycombe away on Saturday they have no guaranteed success there either.

With that in mind I was going to take Yeovil on a +1 Asian line but Yeovil are missing so many players it is untrue. We saw at Coventry on Easter Monday that Yeovil can be dangerous on the road but I can’t back them with that many players out. In a way I’m already on Accrington at 8.25/1 for this one anyway as I’ve backed them outright and that is the place odds so that will do for me.

Exeter City vs Chesterfield

A lot of eyes will be on St James’ Park, my own included on Tuesday evening, as a Chesterfield win at Exeter City will see Luton Town promoted back to the third tier for the first time since 2008.

It is a big night for both these sides. Exeter begin it four points behind Wycombe who are in third with both sides in action. If Exeter can better Wycombe’s result they will be right in the mix with three matches remaining and after drawing at Accrington to follow up a couple of wins the Grecians are in good form.

Chesterfield go into the evening seven points adrift of safety with five matches left and while they can still get out of danger if they lose this a win would be a massive thing for them. I don’t think they will get it though. Chesterfield are the worst side in the league away from home with just two wins in 20 on the road.

Only Accrington and Luton, the top two in the league, have won more home games this term than Exeter. Only Mansfield have left Devon with three points since October so all things being equal I’m with the home win here.

Lincoln City vs Wycombe Wanderers

The other match of the night comes from Sincil Bank where Lincoln City look to make up for Saturday’s surprise loss at Port Vale when they host a Wycombe Wanderers side who know they are three wins from promotion.

Whether Saturday’s defeat was a hangover from the Wembley win for Lincoln remains to be seen but it was their first defeat in seven while Wycombe go into the match undefeated in seven and without a loss on their travels in 2018.

If you happen to be unfortunate enough to watch this match you have my deepest sympathies and worse still I can’t really offer a betting angle on the match either. I think there is a stack of draw potential in this one between two of the most direct and physical sides in the league. It is a no bet match for me.
