We have another midweek round of matches in Sky Bet League 2 as we head towards the end of the first third of the campaign. This division is beginning to take shape with the fancied runners looming large at the top of the table and we’re set for an interesting couple of months leading into January.
Tuesday’s matches are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated)
Cambridge United v Yeovil Town
Carlisle United v Wycombe Wanderers
Cheltenham Town v Grimsby Town
Coventry City v Forest Green Rovers
Crawley Town v Chesterfield
Crewe Alexandra v Notts County
Exeter City v Luton Town
Morecambe v Port Vale
Newport County v Colchester United
Stevenage v Accrington Stanley
Swindon Town v Lincoln City
Barnet v Mansfield Town (8.00pm)
Big Matches
For the second set of matches in succession Exeter City are involved in the match of the day as they play host to free scoring Luton at St James’ Park in a clash which sees second hosting third. The leaders Notts County head to Crewe while Accrington in fourth head to Stevenage looking to pile further misery on the home side after their 7-1 beating on Saturday. At the other end of the table Morecambe vs Port Vale looks a big game.
Best of the Rest
Coventry will look to make up for their loss at Accrington on Saturday when they host struggling Forest Green Rovers while bottom placed Chesterfield head to Crawley for another bottom of the table encounter. Swindon and Lincoln were two divisions apart last season but they meet at the County Ground while Newport in sixth welcome Colchester to Wales.

Betting
I like three bets on Tuesday night. The first of them comes with the league leaders Notts County who are going great on the road at the minute. We can ignore their defeat to Mansfield in their latest away game as that is a derby match but prior to that they have pulled out wins at Wycombe and Exeter which is good road form. Crewe are in the middle of a slump at the minute and it wasn’t too long ago they were losing 5-0 at home to Carlisle. Crewe have lost four of their last five and that barren spell may well be extended here.
Accrington Stanley are the focus of my second bet. In fairness I was probably going to take on Stevenage whoever they were playing given the absolute hiding I witnessed them take on Saturday. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to have a passionate fan in the dugout and we saw that after the pounding at Luton when Darren Sarll accused his players of ‘disgracing our football club and our town’. His players did not need that. They actually quit on that match and they needed to be told they ran into something special not shoved under a bus. Accrington were beaten by Luton the week before but rebounded nicely on Saturday. They’ve won their last four on the road and can see off a wounded and potentially emotionally scarred Stevenage side.
Finally I’m going to take Coventry to cover a goal against Forest Green. I wondered if Forest Green had turned the corner when they held the leaders Notts County two weeks ago but clearly they haven’t as they were battered by Newport on Saturday. Coventry lost at Accrington on Saturday but they more than matched Stanley and with a bit more composure in the box they would have got a result. Mark Robins has spoken of changing his forwards to be more clinical and against a side shipping nearly three a game this is the ideal chance for the Sky Blues to run up a comfortable win.
