The final of the Africa Cup of Nations takes place on Sunday as Egypt and Cameroon fight it out for both the title and a place in the Confederations Cup later in the year. Egypt have won this tournament the last three times they have qualified for it while Cameroon are past winners too so going the distance isn’t an unknown to either.
Egypt
Once again we have to say Egypt haven’t looked anything like how we would have expected them to in this tournament so far and even in their semi-final they were second best throughout but they held their nerve in the high pressure moment of the penalty shootout and now they have a chance to win a fourth title in 11 years.
We know that they have good attacking individuals. The likes of Mohamed Salah are of the highest quality and match up in that department with anyone in this competition and if he can shine in this finale then Egypt are going to have every chance.
Cameroon
In contrast to Egypt, Cameroon have displayed some good form in this tournament and they put in probably their best performance in the semi-final win over Ghana and a repeat of that would give them every chance of regaining not just this title but their reputation and domination in the continent of Africa.
Cameroon haven’t looked fantastic defensively in this tournament although with the standard of player they were forced to do without in this event you could understand that but they have shown some really good stuff in the offensive areas and will certainly fancy their chances here.
Betting
Both these sides have had to come through a penalty shootout to make it this far and I think that might make both go out and grasp the opportunity they have rather than leave it to chance again.
In truth I can’t really decide who I think will win this match although Egypt are especially difficult to beat in tournament play but what I do like is the idea of a couple of goals. As I’ve just mentioned I really think this match will be more open than people would think and the odds on over 1.5 goals are far too big for me to ignore.
We know both these sides have goal threats in them and they can come to the fore in what should be a good final to end a decent tournament.
