The quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations begins on Saturday with the first two matches in the round being played. Four sides will go after the two semi-final spots and guarantee themselves two more matches in the tournament. Two teams will end their run here. It is knockout football and it is cutthroat.
Burkina Faso vs Tunisia
Group A winners Burkina Faso take on Group B runners-up Tunisia in the opening quarter final. Both sides looked pretty good in the group stage and will see the excellent opportunity that is in front of them.
Both sides have shown a good attacking intent in this tournament and I see no reason why that would diminish here even though the stakes have got higher. I think both will try and grasp the opportunity. Neither side have looked that great defensively and both have goals in them so the solid odds against on both teams to score attracts me here.
Senegal vs Cameroon
Without a doubt the pick of the quarter finals is the one between the Group B winners Senegal and the Group A runners up Cameroon. Both sides will look at their pathway through the tournament now and think the winners here are a solid chance of winning the competition.
Senegal have looked very impressive to date with the only goals they have conceded coming against Algeria when they had already won the group and had rested everyone. Cameroon have leaked a couple of goals but the one they conceded to Guinea-Bissau was a special goal.
Whenever these two meet there is a history of stalemates and cancelling each other out and that is a trend I fancy will continue here. I expect a really tight game of football with neither giving an inch and as such I believe under two goals to be a huge runner. The last six matches between these two have ended 1-0 or 0-0 and this one has that feel about it to be as well.
