The final day of the Champions League of Darts will see the group stage conclude in the afternoon on Sunday before the semi-finals and final take place in a busy evening which will be lucrative for whoever comes out on top.
We saw some fantastic darts on the first day of action at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff and I am sure we are set for plenty more. Sadly time restrictions will mean we can’t preview the evening session but it looks as though we’ll have an outright interest in it. We can go through the afternoon session however and we’ll preview it in match order.

Dave Chisnall vs Mensur Suljovic
This is largely a nothing match given that Dave Chisnall is already out after two defeats on Saturday and Mensur Suljovic is already through having won his opening two matches. Suljovic beat both Peter Wright and Gary Anderson on Saturday so his form looks real.
Suljovic needs to be careful that he doesn’t get thrashed in this match if he wants to top the group. I think he will win. It is much harder to get motivated for a tournament when you are already out of it whereas the Austrian will want to keep his form ahead of the semi-finals. I think at even money Suljovic is the bet here.
Gary Anderson vs Peter Wright
The big match of the afternoon comes second in the day when Gary Anderson takes on Peter Wright in an all-Scottish battle. Both men have a win and a defeat to their names from the opening day which means that this is a straight knockout game. A quarter final if you will.
Anderson went into the tournament as a fancied runner but he was left to fight for his life in the event after being thrashed by Mensur Suljovic in his first match. He battled back to beat Dave Chisnall and will progress with a win here. Wright got off to a good start with a win over Chisnall but defeat to Suljovic have left his chances hanging by a thread.
This one could go either way and the prices for it look about right. You would make a case for Wright being value but that is miniscule in my eyes so I’ll sit this one out.
Adrian Lewis vs Raymond Barneveld
The opening match in Group A is an interesting one. Technically Adrian Lewis is not out of the tournament but he would need a miracle to qualify. Raymond Barneveld just needs to better MVGs result to go through.
I fully expect Barneveld to win this match. He has played some excellent darts this weekend so far. He took care of van Gerwen in fine style and had his chances against Taylor but couldn’t take them. The weekend has all been a bit much for Lewis which was to be expected and I expect he might struggle here. I’m with Barneveld to win a match he needs to win to progress.
Phil Taylor vs Michael van Gerwen
The heavyweight showdown of the afternoon could be a prep for the final later in the day. Phil Taylor has the chance to eliminate MVG from the tournament completely if he can win this match. Van Gerwen has to win this match or better Barneveld’s result to make it through.
This should be a great match to watch but I’m not sure it is one to bet on. I say that because Taylor will only need a certain number of legs to go through which may well be his first priority. MVG has to win this match in all likelihood but he hasn’t flowed like we expected just yet. There is no doubt Taylor is value here based on what we’ve seen so far but the fact he doesn’t need to win puts me off backing him.
