The pick of the second set of matches in the Confederations Cup is the one between Germany and Chile in Group B and it comes from Kazan on Thursday evening. These two sides are now established powerhouses in international football which should make for a cracking occasion.
The match is given extra profile by the fact that the winner will near enough be guaranteed to go through while the loser will still fancy their chances of making it through in the last game. This could be a battle to determine who wins the group.
Germany
There was a lot to like about Germany’s performance against Australia in their opening match but there was also some stuff that Joachim Low wouldn’t have likes with his defence a little too open for his liking. He will need to get that tightened up against a gung ho Chile side who have no issues taking anyone to the cleaners.
The positive was how well Germany attacked and to be fair they could well have had many more than the three goals that they managed against Australia. If they can repeat that sort of attacking intent and positivity then we could get into a situation where fire meets fire which is a tantalising prospect.
Chile
I think Chile are in the same boat as Germany in that they will have been happy with much of their opening performance but then there would have been certain things that they will not have enjoyed as much but in many ways that is par for the course with this lot as it is how they set out to play overall.
Going forward Chile looked a million dollars and should have had many more than the two their managed against Cameroon but on the flip side Cameroon were able to create chances. They didn’t capitalise on those chances but better sides will do and the Chileans potentially face one of those here.
Team News
Germany have no fresh injury reports heading into this match but they might look to employ someone like Emre Can to slow down the Chile midfield somewhat.
Chile had to make do with Alexis Sanchez coming from the bench in the first match but he is expected to be fit to start here with Edson Puch the man who is expected to make way.

Betting
Both these sides had defensive issues in their first match and both face significantly better attacks in this second match so you have to think the likelihood of goals in this match is quite high. Chile always go looking for goals without a second thought of their defensive work and we saw Germany entertain that approach in their first match too.
All of that leads me to think we are going to get a few goals here in what has generally been a high scoring tournament. Over 2.5 goals very much looks the way to go in my eyes.
