It is another busy day of action at the German Masters on Friday as the second round concludes and the quarter finals also take place at the Tempodrom in Berlin. The draw continued to open up on Thursday which will add to the nerves and the pressure for those in action at any point across the two sessions on the third day of the tournament.
Afternoon Session
The final four matches in the last 16 make up the afternoon session. Stuart Bingham takes on Dave Gilbert on the TV table while on the streamed table Mark Selby will meet Anthony Hamilton. The other two matches has Barry Hawkins playing Ben Woollaston and Michael Holt facing Yan Bingtao on them.
Evening Session
All four quarter finals take place in this session. At the time of writing we only know the competitors in two of them and due to time restrictions we won’t be able to offer any insights into the other two matches. The two we are aware of are Martin Gould against Ryan Day and Ali Carter versus Tom Ford.
Betting
I’m going to go with three bets over the course of the day. In the afternoon I am going with Stuart Bingham who has an excellent record against Dave Gilbert. I always think Gilbert is unable or just doesn’t play the game he does on the outside tables when he is on the match table and Bingham will want to take advantage of that.
These two have met eight times and Bingham has won the lot. Only once in those eight matches has Gilbert forced a decider and in their three 2016 meetings when Gilbert was playing well enough Bingham recorded wins of 4-1, 5-2 and 4-0. I fancy Bingham to get it done with a bit to spare here.
I watch Ben Woollaston take care of Neil Robertson on Thursday and I can’t believe we can get a decent price on him to win three frames against Barry Hawkins on Friday. Woollaston was really good in that match and his first two frame winning clearances were as good as you’ll see. Hawkins did well to see off Michael White on Thursday and he might win this but it is asking a lot for him to win 5-2 or better. Asking too much I believe.
In the evening I’m expecting a good and lengthy battle between the defending champion Martin Gould and Ryan Day. I say lengthy and I mean in terms of frames if not time. Both men look to be scoring well. Gould has banged in a ton and four 60s this week while Day has a couple of centuries so I’m expecting lots of one visit winning frames. Given both are playing well they can trade enough of them to bring in over 7.5 frames.
Tips
Back S.Bingham (-1.5 frames) to beat D.Gilbert for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with Coral
Back B.Woollaston (+2.5 frames) to beat B.Hawkins for a 4/10 stake at 1.80 with Coral
Back M.Gould vs R.Day – Over 7.5 frames for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with Paddy Power
