The second set of group matches in the Gold Cup get underway on Tuesday night when Group A resumes in Houston. The two matches are quite late, indeed they begin in the early hours of Wednesday morning for those of us in the UK, but they look well worth staying up for.

Costa Rica vs Canada
The winners from the opening two matches in this group meet here and that means that the victorious side will be guaranteed their qualification from the group so the stakes are pretty high for them both.
Canada were involved in a high scoring clash with French Guiana in their first match and while they looked very good going forward the 20 minutes they switched off for would be a concern as is the injury to Maxime Crepeau which launched that crazy period in the first game.
Costa Rica looked solid in their opener but I get the feeling they will be tested more in this one and I’ll be interested to see how they cope with that. I’ve got a vested interest in Canada in this match having backed them outright and with nothing in this clash truly standing out I’m prepared to leave it at that.
Honduras vs French Guiana
The two sides who lost in the opening round of fixtures in Group A meet in the second match of the night and this has become a very big one now. The winners will be in pole position to qualify while the losers will need help elsewhere and a big final game.
Honduras go into the match as heavy favourites and in fairness to them they were not disgraced by potentially the best team in their group in Costa Rica. French Guiana almost rescued themselves from the dead against Canada but they looked like conceding every time they were attacked on.
I would expect Honduras to win this match. How many they win it by will most likely depend on how many they want to win by and indeed how much risk they take and how well they finish. As a rule this isn’t a side who score many goals but they don’t concede a lot either so the best way to play the match could be taking the Hondurans to win without conceding.
