2017 Grand Slam of Darts – Semi-Finals Betting Preview

We have reached the last day of the Grand Slam of Darts and on Sunday the two semi-finals and the final will be played out on a marathon day of tungsten tossing inside the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton.

We are left with four of the best players on the planet to play out for the title over the course of the two sessions on Sunday. The semi-finals are in the afternoon and we will preview them here but the final in the evening will go without a preview due to time restrictions.

Peter Wright vs Gary Anderson

The first semi-final of the Grand Slam is an all-Scottish affair as Peter Wright takes on Gary Anderson for a place in the final. Wright has never made it to the final of this tournament while Anderson will be looking for a spot in his second finale.

I think this is for Anderson to lose. He has been the better player of the two this week and has much the better of their recent meetings. Wright has won just two of their last 15 meetings which is a pretty incredible record and with his foe in inspired form this week I don’t see that changing.

Anderson is scoring well and he is finishing well too and I expect to see him power clear in this one in the second half of the match. Wright has had too many flat spots on his scoring this week and Anderson can punish them to the full.

The other bet I like in the match is for Gary Anderson to ping in more than 9.5 180s. He hit nine against Mensur Suljovic in the previous round but he’ll get a much better rhythm in this one so I expect the 60 bed to be peppered from him. He can move into double figures for 180s in a match he wins.

Michael van Gerwen vs Phil Taylor

The starter is tasty but the main course could be something special as Michael van Gerwen takes on Phil Taylor once again. The potential meetings between these two are running out so we should savour this one in case it is the last.

Van Gerwen has come through the draw this week but he hasn’t been that scintillating player we have become accustomed to seeing which would be a concern. There is no doubt that Taylor is getting better with every match and you definitely get the feeling he fancies the job here. Taylor has won six of the last eight between the two and he’s value at 11/4 to win this one too.

I’m also going to take Taylor to cover his 180 line. He has no chance of competing without scoring and we saw him hit seven 180s and 13 140s in a nothing match against Daryl Gurney in the previous round. He also hit six 180s in the round before that against Darren Webster so he is scoring well and he should have eight 180s in him.
