2017 NatWest T20 Blast – Thursday 20th July Matches Betting Preview

There are three matches in the NatWest T20 Blast on Thursday night with both groups getting a working out across the evening. One of the matches is on TV after the Women’s World Cup match with the other two likely to get decent updates given the sides who are in action.

The televised clash comes from the North Group where Durham host Leicestershire while the South Group matches will be covered by the various other means of getting updates. We’ll go through the matches in start time order.

Middlesex vs Kent

Two inconsistent sides so far this season do battle at Richmond when Middlesex host Kent. Middlesex have a win, a tie and two defeats so far this season while Kent have a couple of wins and a couple of losses.

Both these sides have shown frailties. Middlesex lost to Somerset recently and even the game they won they tried hard to lose. Kent have just failed to chase down 130 odd against Gloucestershire so rather than guessing who might do what here this is very much one to leave well alone.

Durham vs Leicestershire

Two sides who have had different beginnings to the competition clash in the TV match when Durham face Leicestershire up at the Riverside. Durham have played twice and lost both while Leicestershire have three wins from three.

Durham have had the better part of two weeks off to take stock and get themselves together but simply put I don’t think they have the personnel to go well in this competition and it looks like the plan to sign Imad Wasim has stalled. Injuries are definitely not helping either and with the point deduction they received the Jets might already be out of contention.

That isn’t the case for Leicestershire. They are flying. Generally when they start well they keep going and when they start poor they struggle throughout so it is dangerous for the rest how well they have started. They have a deep batting line up and plenty of quality bowling options and I expect them to win this despite Durham’s chance to reassess everything.

Another bet I like is for Leicestershire to be beyond 49.5 runs in the first six overs. This is a big ground but that means there are lots of gaps but with the power the Leicestershire top four have they will still find boundaries. Leicestershire have put up six over totals of 58/2, 53/1 and 60/1 so far while Lancashire have posted 69/1 in six overs against Durham this season. The Foxes can rack up 50 in their powerplay here.

Paul Collingwood has gone well in all formats with the bat this season and 6/1 on him to top score for Durham is a carrot that is being dangled a shade too close to me to ignore. In this competition he has scores of 48 and 38 and with Durham’s batting line up flimsy and light he is a good price to nail a top score if he can post something similar.

Hampshire vs Sussex

The leaders in the South host one of the early competition stragglers when Hampshire take on Sussex for the second time this season. Hampshire won their first match at Hove last week and will be eyeing up a double over their rivals.

Hampshire look the real deal to me this season and I fancy them to come through this match but they are pretty short enough especially with Sussex having the firepower to be dangerous so I’m happy to leave this one alone too.
