2017 NFL – Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos Betting Preview

The second half of the double header of Monday Night Football action in the NFL comes from Colorado as the Denver Broncos host the now Los Angeles Chargers in a big clash in the AFC West.

These two sides have already seen their rivals Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders win this weekend so it is vital they do likewise to avoid having to make up an early deficit.

Denver Broncos

The former champions are at something of a crossroads heading into the new season. They are nothing like the side they were two years ago offensively but their defence remains strong looking and that will always give them a chance. It will be interesting to see if Trevor Siemian has improved enough to lead this team deep.

While the defence is an elite one you wonder how many matches they will win this season because on the offensive side they do look hit and miss. That said if Jamaal Charles can show any of the form that he had in his prime at Kansas City then that side of the ball could turn around very quickly. It could be the different between the play-offs and not.

Los Angeles Chargers

Now that the Chargers have officially made the switch from San Diego to Los Angeles they will be able to focus fully on what happens on the field. They ended last year with a 5-11 record but they only conceded 13pts more than they scored which suggests that they were guilty of losing a lot of close matches.

In theory they should be winning a lot more than five matches. They have a gun slinging quarterback who has some decent options to pass to in Philip Rivers, a top running back in Melvin Gordon and a defensive stud in Joey Bosa. Anthony Lynn coaches them competitively for the first time in this match.

Betting

I’m expecting a bit of a defensive battle here. Denver Broncos look to have most of what Los Angeles Chargers can throw at them covered and I suspect it might take the Broncos attack a little longer to get up to speed then would be ideal.

The points line in this match is 42.5 and while I’m always wary of taking the unders on this ground with the altitude and the like Los Angeles play here enough to know what to expect physically so on this occasion I think it is the way to go.
