The champion golfer of the year will be crowned on Sunday when the final round of The Open is played at Royal Birkdale and with a high quality leaderboard we are set for a wonderful day of golf to determine the champion.
Saturday Recap
At the end of the calmest day of the week weather wise we have Jordan Spieth out in front with a three shot lead on eleven under par. Matt Kuchar is his closest rival at eight under with Brooks Koepka and Austin Connelly three more shots back at five under. Branden Grace and Hideki Matsuyama are seven behind Spieth on four under while a group on three under includes Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson. Rory McIlroy begins the final round two under.
We saw golfing history on Saturday when Branden Grace became the first match ever to shoot 62 in a major championship and that fired him right up to a tie for fourth place. He’ll be looking to build on that on Sunday.
Betting wise it was a bad day on Saturday with Martin Kaymer and Jimmy Walker annoyingly tying and Richard Bland also tying with Jamie Lovemark. Fine margins :(.

Sunday Preview
Jordan Spieth begins the final round as a 3/10 shot to win his third major title but only four of the last 10 leaders after 54 holes have gone on to win this tournament. Matt Kuchar is the 5/1 second favourite but we are already on him at a much bigger price so there is no need to attack that.
You would think looking at the leaderboard this is another matchplay situation much like last year unless the two leaders go back to the field so with Kuchar covered and Spieth no price I will head to the two balls for my Sunday bet.

Dustin Johnson vs Henrik Stenson

Two of the highest profile players in the game are sure to take a decent gallery around with them when Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson tee it up alongside each other on Sunday. Both need miracle rounds to win the tournament from three under but both are capable.
In truth Johnson has been quite ordinary in this tournament when the conditions have been in any way fragile and with the wind expected to be up a little more on Sunday I fancy that will certainly benefit Stenson. We’ve heard all week how Johnson is struggling to complete his swing due to an early season injury and we’ve seen Stenson visibly get better each day. If those trends continue then it is Stenson for me here.
