There is just the one match in the Royal London One Day Cup on Thursday which comes from Trent Bridge as the Nottinghamshire Outlaws host the Durham Dynamos in a big match in the North Group.
Second spot is up for grabs for the winners of this one and with matches running out in the competition it is a good time to make it into that position. We’re in front of the TV cameras here too which should add some real entertainment to proceedings.
Nottinghamshire
It looked like this was going to be a fruitless competition for Nottinghamshire when they lost their first two matches in the tournament but since then they have recovered to win three on the bounce and all of a sudden they are looking at a possible quarter final spot. A win here will put them in a really good position.
If they are to win this they will need to up their game with the ball as they have been conceding far too many runs in the tournament to date. I’ve seen it happen before when a side has a stack of international bowlers to call upon they leave it to each other and nobody ends up getting the job done and they need to avoid that.
Durham
When you think Durham began this competition with a two point disadvantage after their well covered financial issues of last season to be sitting in fourth spot with three matches to go in the group is an amazing effort. I sense they have used that punishment as motivation and to galvanise them and the results have been evident.
Durham have batted really well in the competition with their top four all making big scores so far and if they can bat well here they could really get Nottinghamshire under pressure. Durham’s bowling hasn’t been brilliant but Keaton Jennings has used his bowlers well and got what he has needed from them.
Team News
Nottinghamshire will have England duo Alex Hales and Jake Ball back for this one. They are both expected to go into the side. Brendan Taylor and Luke Fletcher could be the ones to make way for them.
Durham have Mark Wood back in their ranks after England released him for duty but they will be without Stephen Cook who has had to go back to South Africa for fitness tests despite playing all season with the Dynamos.

Betting
I think Durham are a shade of value here. Nottinghamshire have won their last three matches but without being too disrespectful I’m not sure they have beaten a whole lot in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire. Two of those three are in the bottom three in the group.
Durham have only been beaten by Yorkshire in this competition so far and it needed a Jonny Bairstow special for that to happen. I think Durham are playing the better cricket here and in a match which I see as 50/50 the visitors have to be the bet especially with their added motivation in this competition.
I also like the performance line of Paul Collingwood. The line is at 42.5 which he has covered with the bat in the last two matches but he is always going to be in the game because he is likely to bowl his 10 overs and he is still dynamite in the field as well. On what is usually a good wicket at Trent Bridge he should enjoy conditions with the bat and his cutters will be useful with the ball. I think he’ll cover that.
Steven Mullaney missed the start of this competition but since he returned to the side he has made back to back half centuries and at 8/1 he’s decent value to top score for the home side here. Durham have an attack that takes wickets up top so Mullaney should still be in the game when he gets in and given his form he’s more than a fair price.
