2017 Royal London One Day Cup – Wednesday 10th May Matches Betting Preview

After a two day sabbatical the Royal London One Day Cup returns on Wednesday with near enough a full round of matches. Seven fixtures take place in total including a TV match so there is plenty for us to enjoy as we head closer to the conclusion of the group stage.

Both groups have significant matches in them on Wednesday so it is one of the biggest days of the competition so far which should guarantee we get some great action.

North Group

Two sides probably needing to win out to have a chance of progressing meet at Derby when Derbyshire take on Warwickshire. Worcestershire can take a significant step to the next stage when they head to Old Trafford to face Lancashire while in the day/night match in this group Northamptonshire, still clinging on to a hope of qualifying, host leaders Yorkshire.

South Group

The TV match comes in the South Group on Wednesday when third placed Essex host second placed Sussex in a real big match. That is the day/night match. Earlier in the day the leaders Somerset host Hampshire while the bottom two go head to head at Bristol when Gloucestershire welcome Kent. Middlesex host Glamorgan at Radlett in the other match.

Betting

I’m going with a couple of main bets and a couple from the side markets as well as a top batsman on Wednesday as I aim to get back on track for this competition.

The match bets sees Worcestershire to beat Lancashire. I really don’t get how Worcestershire are still the outsiders to beat Lancashire. While you have to respect Lancashire they haven’t won many matches in this tournament and Worcestershire are not only unbeaten in the competition but they have Moeen Ali back too. They look far too solid an outfit to be the outsiders in this one.

The other match bet is on a Hampshire side who really need a win at Taunton. You can tell how big their need for a win is because they have brought Rilee Rossouw and Fidel Edwards back into their side which with Liam Dawson, James Vince, George Bailey, Reece Topley, Sean Ervine and Kyle Abbott means they could easily be playing eight internationals in this match. Somerset have gone well in the tournament so far but they’ve burgled a couple of wins and I’m not convinced their form is as rock solid as it is made out to be. Hampshire need the win and their plethora of internationals can get it done.

Also in that Worcestershire match I think the performance of Daryl Mitchell is a little on the low side at 42.5. In the two matches he has played in the tournament he has made half centuries with the bat in both and indeed in the last match he took three wickets on top of that as well. He is the sort of cricketer who is always going to be involved in the game and given the scoring options open to him that line can be covered.

The live game has a couple of bets I like too. With Neil Wagner off on international duty now Essex’s attack looks a little on the light side while Sussex have been involved in high scoring matches throughout the competition so I’m expecting this one to be high scoring too on a sunny day and on a small ground. Both sides bat pretty deep so a 545.5 total runs line looks a touch on the low side especially when you factor in that all four innings on this ground this season have had more than 270 runs.

Laurie Evans is having a good tournament. He has top scored twice in four matches for Sussex so far and at 5/1 he looks a decent price to top score for the Sharks. One of his innings was a fantastic 134 from just 86 balls against Kent. He has 16 sixes in this tournament in total and a few more in this match could go a long way to top scoring.
