2017 Specsavers County Championship – Monday 28th August Matches Betting Preview

With just one day of limited overs cricket in the county season left it is time to get back to the longer format for the remainder of it and that run begins on Monday when both divisions of the County Championship make a return.

In total this week we have eight matches to enjoy and get stuck into with the leaders of both divisions in action. The weather is set fine so this should be a cracking week of cricket.

Division One

The leaders Essex will look to extend their lead at the top of the table when they host relegation threatened Somerset at Chelmsford. Lancashire are their closest challengers at the present time and they take on bottom placed Warwickshire at Old Trafford while in the other match the there is a London derby as Surrey host the champions Middlesex at The Oval.

Division Two

Nottinghamshire will look to put themselves in a solid position to achieve promotion at the first time of asking when they host Northamptonshire at Trent Bridge. Worcestershire in second place will look to put themselves in an equally commanding position when they host Gloucestershire while Kent welcome Leicestershire to Canterbury. Durham meet Derbyshire in a bottom of the table clash with Glamorgan facing Sussex in the other game.

Betting

After a period of T20 cricket and with three of the four sides in action playing it again after this round of matches these are not the easiest matches to bet on and as such there is just one that I like the look of.

That is Middlesex to beat Surrey. Surrey will still be getting over the disappointment of that agonising defeat in the quarter final and while they went well in the early stages of the Championship campaign they will be without their two leading scorers for this match with Mark Stoneman in the Test with England and Kumar Sangakkara in the CPL. If that wasn’t enough Aaron Finch is out with injury. With Tom Curran also injured this is a light looking Surrey line up.

Middlesex are missing a couple of players too with Nick Gubbins one of those out but Toby Roland-Jones not being in the Test side benefits them greatly and they have an attack that looks pretty decent. There is enough in their batting line up to put up runs and at odds against the champions have to be the call having had a good week or so to get practicing with the red ball again.
