The second weekend in the Premier League campaign concludes with the first Monday Night Football of the season when Crystal Palace entertain Liverpool in what should be an entertaining match at Selhurst Park.
Both sides picked up good wins in their opening match of the season last week so the winners here will find themselves in a lofty position in the table heading into the third round of games next weekend.
Crystal Palace
To be fair to Crystal Palace their opening win was actually better than it looked on paper as it is never easy to face a promoted side away from home on the first weekend of the season. That is probably magnified when it is a team who have been away from the Premier League for a while and are finally making a return.
Palace look much better prepared heading into this season than they did the last one. Roy Hodgson has done some good work to improve his squad in the close season and most importantly of all they kept Wilfried Zaha and got him firing from the word go. If Palace can stay resolute defensively then they should enjoy a good campaign.
Liverpool
There was a lot of expectation on Liverpool heading into the season. When you spend the levels of money that they outlaid in the summer you have to get results so they will have been delighted to see off West Ham in the authoritative and destructive way that they did. It might be that they got West Ham at the right time but you can’t argue with their ruthlessness.
It will be interesting to see if they can back that performance up on the road. I think most will expect Liverpool to be tough to beat at Anfield this season but they need to prove they have the steel and the solidarity to go on the road and pick up results. That will be key and the possible different between them being genuine title challengers or just the next best.
Team News
Roy Hodgson seems to have a fully fit squad to choose from which means that Max Meyer could be in line to make his debut while Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho could feature against their former clubs.
Liverpool remain without Dejan Lovren due to injury but Joel Matip could be back on the bench after he has recovered from the injury he sustained in preseason. Xherdan Shaqiri is expected to begin on the bench.

Betting
I think it is fair to assume we are going to see goals in this match. Liverpool bring a very attacking outlook to the party while the pace and power in this Palace side could open up what remains a very weak looking defence for the Champions League finalists.
Every match these two have played at Selhurst Park since Palace returned to the Premier League have had at least three goals with a couple of those meetings having as many as six goals so I think it is the right thing to do to play over 3 goals in this one.
