The Premier League returns from the international break on Saturday and it does so with an eight match card as the division gets back into the swing of things for another month at the very least.

As ever on a Saturday we have three kick off times across these matches including a huge battle to get things underway with. Most of the title protagonists are in action on Saturday so a cracking day lies ahead of us.

Early Kick Off

The first game of the day is the big one as Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge with his Manchester United side to take on a Chelsea team who went into the international break level on points at the top of the table with Liverpool and Manchester City. The pressure has been cranking up on United since their opening match of the season and Chelsea could put a right boot into them here if they are on it. This looks like a great way to resume the Premier League.

3pm Matches

There are six matches in the traditional 3pm slot. There is the Solent derby as Bournemouth host struggling Southampton at the Vitality Stadium while Newcastle go in search of that elusive first win when they entertain Brighton and Hove Albion. The champions Manchester City play host to Burnley at the Etihad Stadium while two promoted sides do battle at the Cardiff City Stadium as Cardiff City welcome Fulham to Wales.

Passions will be high at the London Stadium as West Ham United play host to their bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in probably the most appealing match among the 3pm games while the Championship winners Wolves go up against Watford at Molineux.

Late Game

The action concludes at the John Smith’s Stadium where Huddersfield Town go in search of a much needed victory when they take on a Liverpool side who can ill afford to drop points at a club who already look like they won’t be winning many matches this season. The sideshow to this game is that it is Wagner against Klopp with both men being good friends so neither will want to give in to the other.

Betting

I’m tempted with Newcastle against Brighton on Saturday but they are a little short given that they’ve not won a match this season yet but there are three others that I will take. The first of those is a Chelsea side who could really feast on Manchester United. United often adopt a defensive, negative approach to these big matches but they can’t really do that with the lack of a defence they currently have and I’m not sure they can possibly come out on top going toe to toe with a side who are born to attack like this Chelsea one is. United have already been torn apart by Tottenham this season and even Brighton of all sides scored three against them. Chelsea would have beaten Liverpool recently but for a Daniel Sturridge wonder goal. Form and logic suggest a Chelsea win here.

Southampton are a struggling side at the minute and while they play better on the road than they do at home I don’t think that is going to carry a huge amount of weight when they head to Bournemouth on Saturday. The Saints have only scored six goals in eight matches this term while Bournemouth are scoring them for fun. It might be that Southampton find the back of the net here but that may not ultimately yield anything for them. Southampton have only beaten a Zaha-less Crystal Palace this season and have lost their last three matches without scoring and shipping eight goals. Twice this term Bournemouth have banged in four in a game. The likely outcome is a home win here.

The other bet I like is for Fulham to see off Cardiff in the battle of the promoted sides. Cardiff look well and truly out of their depth to me as highlighted by their only two points of the season coming in goalless draws with Huddersfield and Newcastle, the two sides with them in the bottom three of the table. In all Cardiff have failed to score in five of their eight matches this season and only found the net more than once in one match. Fulham have only won once this season but they are regular finders of the net which could well be the difference here. Fulham won this match 4-2 in the Championship last year. They can win the Premier League instalment too.
