The penultimate Premier League weekend before Christmas concludes on Sunday with a triple header of matches including one of the big games of any season as Liverpool and Manchester United do battle.
In all, four of the supposed big six in the division are in action on Sunday so we should not go short of quality and excitement over the course of the afternoon. Two matches are live on TV in the UK with overseas streams around for the other one.
Brighton vs Chelsea (13.30)
The match which is not on TV in the UK is the one at the Amex Stadium as Brighton and Hove Albion look to improve their solid home form since they were promoted to the Premier League when they take on a Chelsea side in need of three points to keep pace with those above them.
Chelsea had a terrific win over Manchester City last weekend and if they can build on that here they will go into the Christmas period in good nick. Brighton surprisingly lost at Burnley last weekend which ended a run of successive wins but they often serve it up to the big boys at home and I’m expecting no different here. There is a part of me that thinks Brighton are a shade of value here but I’ve not really got Chelsea right all season so I’ll leave this one alone.

Southampton vs Arsenal (13.30)
The first of the two live games on TV comes from St Mary’s Stadium where Southampton and their need for a win sees them hosting Arsenal who don’t seem to be able to lose at the minute despite competing domestically and in Europe.
All eyes will be on the Saints here to see if Ralph Hasenhuttl has managed to bring an entertaining brand of football to a Southampton home match which will please their fans if he has even if the result doesn’t yet come. Unai Emery will be looking for his side to pick up another three points so that the top three don’t get away from his side.
I’ll be interested to see how Southampton play here. Arsenal have defensive issues so there should be a chance for the Saints to get at them and with the Austrian known for a high-intensity pressure game they should do that. You would think Arsenal will get at Southampton so goals should come quite readily in this one.
Liverpool vs Man Utd (16.00)
The big match of the day is left for last as two sides needing a win do battle in the latest instalment of the Liverpool against Manchester United rivalry. Liverpool will go back to the top with a win while United will consolidate sixth spot should they come out on top.
There will be a lot of pressure on Liverpool to deliver here. They coped pretty well with that in midweek when they had to win in the Champions League and while this isn’t quite the same situation they won’t want to lose. United have had a Premier League campaign to forget but they get the chance to begin to put things right were they to come out on top in this one.
When Manchester City went to Anfield we got a cagey contest and that might be why the goals line here is only 2.5 goals but I don’t see how this one can be because United just can’t set up to defend and contain any longer. Their only chance is to go at Liverpool and try and get at them and exploit their defensive issues in this match. At some point you’ve got to think Liverpool will expose this awful United defence so I actually think over 2.5 goals is the way forward in this one.
