There is another round of matches in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon and with sides strengthening their stock ahead of a real assault on the remainder of the season we could be in for an intriguing afternoon.
We are heading towards the two thirds mark of the campaign and so we are approaching the time where teams will be wanting to be hitting their peak form and getting into a position to launch from so Saturday is another big day.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
AFC Wimbledon v Barnsley
Blackpool v Shrewsbury Town
Bradford City v Southend United
Bristol Rovers v Wycombe Wanderers
Charlton Athletic v Accrington Stanley
Doncaster Rovers v Burton Albion
Gillingham v Walsall
Luton Town v Peterborough United
Oxford United v Portsmouth
Plymouth Argyle v Coventry City
Rochdale v Fleetwood Town
Scunthorpe United v Sunderland
Big Matches
The league leaders Portsmouth will look to maintain their four point lead at the summit of the division when they head to the Kassam Stadium to take on Oxford United but the big match of the day probably comes from Kenilworth Road, where Luton in second place host Peterborough United in a clash which sees the best home team taking on the second best away team. Sunderland in third head to in form Scunthorpe United for a trickier match than it looked a few weeks ago.
Best of the Rest
Both ends of the table will be in the spotlight at Kingsmeadow as AFC Wimbledon will look to latch onto the teams above them when they host Barnsley. Charlton Athletic are in good nick at the minute and the welcome a stuttering Accrington Stanley to The Valley while Doncaster Rovers will look to get over their late meltdown last week when they host Carabao Cup semi-finalists Burton Albion. Plymouth Argyle host Coventry City.

Betting
There are three bets for me in this card. I’ll begin at the match I’m going to where Luton Town take on Peterborough United in a match where I’m expecting to see goals. The reverse fixture ended 3-1 to Peterborough and there could have been double that number of goals. The pair also combined for three goals in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier in the season too. Luton are brilliant at home and Peterborough have taken more points on the road than every team in the league bar Portsmouth. Luton have 31 goals in 13 home matches, Peterborough have notched 30 times in 13 road games. Over 2.5 goals is a better than 4/5 shot.
Charlton Athletic are the second best team in the division on their own patch with only Sunderland leaving The Valley with a point in the last five games there. Accrington Stanley are beginning to feel the pinch a little bit at the minute with six defeats in nine league games and when they have come up against the cream of the crop in the division they have been found wanting. Luton beat them 4-1 and Peterborough took them to the cleaners recently. If Charlton are to be promotion contenders this season they have to win this. I think they will.
Bradford City are on fire at the minute too. Their impressive run cooled last week at Barnsley but I’m not going to hold that against them as I’ve not seen a better technical side in the division than the Oakwell men. Bradford are very good on their own patch at the minute though. They have won their last four matches at Valley Parade and haven’t conceded a goal in that time. Southend United have lost four of their last five away matches and the one they won was only at Oxford which doesn’t really count for a lot. I’ll side with the form book in this one.
