After a week off, another busy schedule in Sky Bet League One begins on Saturday with the 24 teams facing another run of three big matches in eight days to round off the month of October. With the big leagues back the games sneak under the radar but there should some good football to enjoy for those going to any of the matches.
We are getting towards the end of the first third of the season and with the FA Cup looming on the horizon teams will be eager to maximise their points pick up ahead of the break for that in three weeks.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Blackpool v AFC Wimbledon
Bradford City v Rochdale
Bristol Rovers v Oxford United
Charlton Athletic v Barnsley
Doncaster Rovers v Gillingham
Luton Town v Walsall
Peterborough United v Accrington Stanley
Plymouth Argyle v Burton Albion
Portsmouth v Fleetwood Town
Shrewsbury Town v Sunderland
Southend United v Coventry City
Wycombe Wanderers v Scunthorpe United
Big Matches
The leaders Portsmouth look to end an indifferent spell at Fratton Park when they play host to a dangerous Fleetwood Town side while Peterborough United will be looking to take advantage of any slip ups when they take on an Accrington Stanley side who sit in sixth place going into the weekend. Barnsley in third make the trip to the capital to take on Charlton Athletic in what is probably the pick of the matches on the day.
Best of the Rest
Elsewhere Sunderland return from having last week off when they head to Shrewsbury Town while Doncaster Rovers will look to stay in the top four of the table when they entertain Gillingham. Walsall will look to force their way back into the top six when they go to Kenilworth Road to face a Luton side looking to bounce back from their televised defeat last week. At the other end of the table two of the bottom four meet when Bristol Rovers welcome Oxford United to the Memorial Stadium.

Betting
I’ll begin this busy week with just the one bet which comes from Roots Hall where the form team of the moment Southend United host Coventry City in a match where I think the home side will continue their impressive recent sequence of results.
Southend go into the match with four wins in their last five outings and are powering towards a place in the play-off spots. They have their international pair back for this game and a couple of other key players have been passed fit too. Coventry have won their last two but they’ve not beaten a huge amount and could just be overrated off the back of those victories. I still don’t think they have the firepower up top to win matches regularly, especially away to the better sides in the division. It is Southend for me here.
