The first midweek round of the Sky Bet League One season is upon us and it begins with 10 matches in the third tier on Tuesday evening on a night which could be important to many as the early table begins to take shape.
As ever at this time of the year a win will do wonders for whoever gets it and defeat could have more dramatic effects than usual. Sunderland aren’t in action on Tuesday so the rest of the title chasers have the chance to steal a march on them.
Tuesday’s matches are as follows:
AFC Wimbledon v Walsall
Blackpool v Coventry City
Bradford City v Burton Albion
Bristol Rovers v Portsmouth
Charlton Athletic v Peterborough United
Doncaster Rovers v Shrewsbury Town
Luton Town v Southend United
Oxford United v Accrington Stanley
Plymouth Argyle v Wycombe Wanderers
Rochdale v Barnsley
Big Matches
The big match on Tuesday evening comes from The Valley as Charlton Athletic play host to the leaders Peterborough United in what should be an appealing match on the eye. Portsmouth take the only other 100% record to the Memorial Stadium to take on a Bristol Rovers side who will be looking to build on their win at Wycombe on Saturday. At the other end Oxford will be looking for their first points of the campaign when Accrington Stanley visit the Kassam Stadium.
Best of the Rest
Barnsley have made a good start to the season and they take their unbeaten record to Spotland to face Rochdale while the other two undefeated sides meet at Kingsmeadow when AFC Wimbledon host Walsall. Two sides with one point to their name thus far meet at Home Park when Plymouth Argyle take on Wycombe Wanderers while two of the bigger clubs in the division meet when Blackpool host Coventry in a clash between sides who know all about financial troubles.

Betting
Two home sides jump out at me in this division on Tuesday evening and I’m going to play both of them. Doncaster Rovers lost to Burton on Saturday but I don’t see that as a terrible result and actually Grant McCann’s men had more shots in the game which suggests they were not outplayed or outclassed. They now host a Shrewsbury Town side who I expected to struggle and who are doing just that. They have just one goal from three matches and one point which came against a poor Blackpool side at the weekend. I expect Shrewsbury to continue to struggle here and Doncaster look a great bet with the required draw cover for a midweek fixture.
Plymouth Argyle haven’t got going yet this season and I’m slightly concerned that they are making a thing of slow starts in this division but they won’t have a better chance to get up and running than when Wycombe Wanderers head to Home Park. I fancied Wycombe would be out of their depth this season and I’ve seen little to suggest that will not be the case. Gareth Ainsworth put on a brave after the 3-0 drubbing by Doncaster a couple of games ago but the 2-1 reverse to Bristol Rovers on Saturday won’t have helped. Plymouth have lost both their away matches so far but they got a creditable draw with Southend in their only home match and if they are to have anything about them this season this is a match they should be winning.
