2018-19 Sky Bet League 1 – Tuesday 29th January Matches Betting Preview

Half of Sky Bet League 1 are in action on what looks like being a massive Tuesday night in the third tier of the division. The top two meet in one of the pivotal matches of the season in the title race while teams at both ends of the table go in search of three big points.

Kenilworth Road will be the centre of attention but with these matches being games in hand of those in and around them for many, we could be in for a very competitive evening of football, all of which are streamed for £10 on the club websites.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows:

Blackpool v Wycombe Wanderers

Bradford City v Shrewsbury Town

Bristol Rovers v Peterborough United

Gillingham v Accrington Stanley

Luton Town v Portsmouth

Oxford United v Barnsley

New Customers can get Man City at an enhanced 25/1 to beat Newcastle. Max Stake £1. Winnings paid in free bets. Full T&Cs Apply. 18+|Gamble Aware.

Big Matches

They don’t get any bigger than the match at Kenilworth Road where the leaders Luton Town put their 16 match unbeaten run on the line when they host Portsmouth who will be out to avoid a third straight league defeat. A Luton win could have a massive impact on the title picture. Barnsley will be looking to move into second place should Portsmouth slip up. They travel to lowly Oxford, who beat Portsmouth last time out.

Best of the Rest

Darren Ferguson begins a third stint in charge of Peterborough when he takes Posh to Bristol Rovers in what is a key match for both sides. Two of the bottom seven meet at Valley Parade when Bradford City host Shrewsbury Town while Blackpool and Wycombe Wanderers will look to enhance their play-off hopes when they clash at Bloomfield Road. Gillingham play host to Accrington Stanley in the other match on the evening.

Betting

This is a tricky looking card for a few reasons. There are a few competitive matches on it but also players are going to be brought in and departing most of the sides in the lead up to the games so in truth there is only one bet I’m going to go with, with a mind on waiting until the weekend when we’ve had a chance to assess all the last minute business and plan from there. The weather could also have a part to play.

Peterborough United have died on their arse in the last month or so but there is no disguising the talent that they have at their disposal and I expect Darren Ferguson to bring it out of them once again. Posh head to Bristol Rovers whose fire seems to have petered out tamely once again as they have now gone three matches without scoring. Peterborough have been one of the best attacking units in the division this season and that is no surprise with the pace and quality they have in the forward areas. If they can keep the back door shut then I expect them to have enough to pick up a result in Ferguson’s first game back.
