2018-19 Sky Bet League 1 – Tuesday 2nd October Matches Betting Preview

The busy English domestic scene continues on Tuesday evening when there is a near full fixture list in Sky Bet League 1 in which the sides at the top of the table should have the chance to pull away while those towards the rear will be desperate for a win.

We have no TV coverage of these matches but for this season the EFL have allowed the matches to be streamed via their iFollow service for £10 so we have the opportunity to watch should we so wish.

Tuesday’s matches are as follows:

Accrington Stanley v Doncaster Rovers

AFC Wimbledon v Bradford City

Barnsley v Plymouth Argyle

Burton Albion v Southend United

Coventry City v Portsmouth

Fleetwood Town v Wycombe Wanderers

Oxford United v Luton Town

Rochdale v Bristol Rovers

Scunthorpe United v Charlton Athletic

Sunderland v Peterborough United

Walsall v Shrewsbury Town

Big Matches

The league leaders Portsmouth make the trip to the Ricoh Arena to take on Coventry City on Tuesday evening but there is no doubt where the big match of the night comes from. That is the Stadium of Light where Sunderland host Peterborough United in a clash which sees fourth place hosting second. Doncaster Rovers will look to continue their fine start to the season when they go up against Accrington Stanley.

Best of the Rest

Barnsley are keeping up with those at the top despite having played a match less than those around them. They play host to bottom side Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night while surprise packages Walsall in sixth will welcome Shrewsbury Town to the Bescot Stadium. The two losing play-off semi-finalists from last season do battle when Scunthorpe United host Charlton Athletic.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets on Tuesday night with the leaders Portsmouth being the first of those. I really like them on the expansive and open pitch at the Ricoh Arena. Coventry haven’t really got going this season and they will not have Conor Chaplin to call on for this match as he is ineligible and that is a big lift for Pompey. The leaders have yet to taste defeat on their travels with their only dropped points being at Doncaster Rovers. I don’t think they’ll drop any here either.

Walsall will have been annoyed to lose to Accrington Stanley on Saturday having had the majority of the play but I think they can make up for that when they take on Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night. The midlanders will probably still be wondering how they never scored at the weekend but if they are even slightly more clinical here they should have too much for an average Shrewsbury side.
