2018 Asia Cup – Friday 21st September Matches Betting Preview

The Super Fours segment of the Asia Cup begins on Friday with all four sides in action across two matches out in the UAE. This is the part of the tournament that will yield the finalists so each match matters now.

Much has been made of the scheduling of this tournament and it has to be said it is a bit of a shambles but we end up with what should be a great day of action to begin the second phase of the competition for us to get stuck into.

India vs Bangladesh

The match which comes from Dubai on Friday sees India taking on Bangladesh. There is no doubt Bangladesh are the ones who drew the short straw as they played in Abu Dhabi on Thursday and face India on Friday which won’t be easy.

India won both their matches in their group but you wouldn’t say they were overly appealing in either. It actually looked like they were going to be the victims of a huge shock when Hong Kong were going nicely against them but to be fair they held their nerve and then eased past Pakistan. Bangladesh won their opening match against Sri Lanka before losing a dead rubber to Afghanistan on Thursday.

Given the short turnaround for Bangladesh there isn’t a whole lot I want to risk in this match but I will have a little punt on Shikhar Dhawan to be the man of the match. He has started this tournament strongly with a century and then 46 against Pakistan and he has a solid enough record against Bangladesh too. These are conditions Dhawan should do well in so at just under 15/2 he looks an acceptable price to be the man of the match.

Pakistan vs Afghanistan

The other match on Thursday sees Pakistan taking on Afghanistan in a match in which a little bit of a rivalry is growing. A lot of that is down to political issues but with Afghanistan improving all the time these two will battle many times.

Pakistan have an easy win and a huge loss on their ledger so far in this tournament although the only thing that will have concerned them about their defeat was the fact it was to India as it was a dead rubber apart from that. Afghanistan have two huge wins to their name and will fancy their chances of making it three in a row here.

I like a couple of bets here. The first is Afghanistan to win. They are in good form right now and we’ve seen this pitch start to take more and more turn and there is no doubt that if they comes down to a battle of the spin attacks Afghanistan have Pakistan covered by a good margin. I don’t think runs will come easy for either side so Afghanistan at 9/4 makes a lot of sense.

I’ll also have a go at the highest individual score to be under 88.5 runs. There have been a couple of matches on this ground so far in the tournament with the highest score to date being just 72. There have only been three 50s scored here so far and they have all been by Afghanistan players although Rashid Khan might not make one again. With the wicket getting harder to bat on it seems unlikely we’ll see someone pass 88 here especially with the quality of the two attacks.
