2018 ATP Miami Open Tennis – Day 5 Betting Preview

The first Sunday of the ATP Miami Open sees the third round of the tournament get underway and after the shock of Roger Federer losing on Saturday there is a much more open feel to the competition which will see the pressure increase and the drama intensify from here on in.

The new tournament favourite Juan Martin del Potro heads the cast list on Sunday with Grigor Dimitrov, Marin Cilic and Milos Raonic offering a pretty decent support act on what looks like a high class day of action.

Day 4 Recap

The big news was that defeat for Roger Federer. He went down to Thanasi Kokkinakis in a deciding set tiebreak but by and large the big names all made it through safely around him including our quarter bet Borna Coric. There were convincing wins on the day for the likes of Pablo Carreno Busta and Nick Kyrgios which really caught the eye.

It was a winning day for ourselves too as our one bet came in. We were made to wait for Frances Tiafoe to get the job done against Kyle Edmund but it was well worth waiting for to take our record for the week to five winners from six bets.

Stadium Court

Two ladies matches gets the action underway on Sunday but when the men come to the party they bring top quality with Juan Martin del Potro taking on Kei Niskikori in what is surely the match of the weekend. Grigor Dimitrov will follow them when he plays Jeremy Chardy. We have to wait until the night session for the last men’s match when Milos Raonic faces Diego Schwartzman.

Grandstand

Local hope Jared Ronaldson is in action first up on Grandstand. He plays the man who took David Goffin to the cleaners in the first round in Joao Sousa before Marin Cilic looks to make it into the last 16 when he goes up against Vasek Pospisil before a women’s match takes to the court. After the women John Isner will be on show against Mikhail Youzhny.

Court 1

There are two men’s matches on the third court on Sunday and they come right from the start of the day. Our tournament pick Hyeon Chung takes on the American qualifier Michael Mmoh in the opening match before Filip Krajinovic takes on the fiery Frenchman, Benoit Paire for a place in the last 16 of the event.

Betting

I’m going with just the one bet on Sunday which comes from the main court. Grigor Dimitrov is having a bit of a mare at the minute with early defeats in Dubai and Indian Wells and I am not convinced he is a good thing against Jeremy Chardy who is hitting the ball well at the minute. It took Chardy an age to get going against Richard Gasquet in the previous round but he had a solid win prior to that and off the back of a strong Indian Wells campaign he should be feeling good about his game right now.

Dimitrov doesn’t need much more pressure on his shoulders but the defeat for Roger Federer might have piled on more pressure in a funny sort of way because we now know that we are going to have another one of these ATP Masters 1000 events won by one player not a member of the big four. Chardy isn’t going to win the tournament so he can swing with a little more freedom and could just upset another high level opponent.

Tips

WON – Back J.Chardy to beat G.Dimitrov for a 3/10 stake at 3.50 with William Hill
