2018 ATP Miami Open Tennis – Day 8 Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the ATP Miami Open get going on Wednesday in what is a quietish day at Crandon Park. With the last eight matches split over two days it means we only have two matches on show on Wednesday but that means we can give them much stronger attention.

We have one quarter final in the day session and one in the night session and with every match left in the tournament being on the Stadium Court we are guaranteed an excellent atmosphere and plenty of excitement.

Day 7 Recap

The theme of big shocks continued in the tournament in the day session on Tuesday when Marin Cilic bit the dust. He was beaten in straight sets by John Isner. Elsewhere there were routine wins for Juan Martin del Potro, Milos Raonic, Pablo Carreno Busta and Hyeon Chung. Borna Coric came through a tight three setter too.

Our one bet to have played in the day session gave us yet another winner when Carreno Busta eased past Fernando Verdasco which means we have now won nine out of our 10 match bets this week with one in the night session to run. Both our outright bets made it into the quarter final too so everything is good betting wise.

Hyeon Chung vs John Isner

The opening quarter final sees our tournament outright pick Hyeon Chung taking on the big serving American player John Isner for a place in the semi-final on Friday. The pair meet for the second time this year after Chung won their meeting in Auckland earlier in the season.

The Korean has breezed into this quarter final. He has only dropped 17 games in his three matches thus far and is hitting the ball from the baseline as well as anyone in the tournament. It has been a little tougher for Isner so far but he produced his best performance of 2018 in the previous round against Marin Cilic.

I think the conditions in Miami will play into the hands of Chung. Isner’s serve will be affected by the blustery conditions and if Chung can get into rallies I would expect him to win a large percentage of the points but given that he’s odds on and I’m already on him outright I don’t really need to get involved here.

Juan Martin del Potro vs Milos Raonic

For the second tournament in succession Juan Martin del Potro will take on Milos Raonic. They met in the semi-final in Indian Wells last week which del Potro won on his way to the title and this week they do battle for a place in the last four.

Del Potro had a tough opener this week but has cruised past two very competent opponents since then whereas Raonic is yet to drop a set and if anything is getting better and better and more and more back to the form that we were used to seeing him play at before his injury struggles.

Del Potro has looked a little sluggish in the early stages of his last two matches before his opponents went into unforced error city but you’ve got to think the mental and indeed physical fatigue of such a lengthy winning run will catch up with the Argentine eventually. Raonic is serving and playing well and I’ve a feeling this could be where Delpo’s remarkable run ends.
