2018 Danish Darts Open – Last 32 Betting Preview

The seeded players enter the Danish Darts Open on Saturday which elevates the tournament to a new level and there is expected to be a big crowd in Copenhagen which should ensure the quality of darts is extra special too.

It means that the crowd will get their first chance to see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and the world champion Rob Cross in action among others. Sadly the home qualifiers all bit the dust on Friday but there is much to enjoy despite that.

Afternoon Session

It all begins with two veterans going at it when John Henderson takes on Brendan Dolan with the winner potentially coming up against Michael van Gerwen later in the weekend. Joe Cullen then takes on Friday’s star Madars Razma who walloped Jeffrey de Zwaan 6-0 with a 104 average! The match of the afternoon sees Gerwyn Price taking on Jelle Klaasen before Jonny Clayton plays Darius Labanauskas to take us into the interval.

After the break it is the turn of James Wade to make his way onto the stage. He goes up against Rusty-Jake Rodriguez before Darren Webster then meets Cristo Reyes. Two vulnerable seeds round off the afternoon when Simon Whitlock goes up against Jermaine Wattimena and Stephen Bunting faces Peter Jacques.

Evening Session

A good looking match between Mervyn King and Max Hopp gets things underway in the evening session before Mensur Suljovic bids to find some form against Ryan Joyce. Peter Wright then takes on the former UK Open star Barry Lynn before the match of the round takes us into the interval as Michael Smith faces Adrian Lewis in a contest which could easily be the final of this tournament rather than the last 32.

The world champion is first up onto the stage after the break. He takes on another man to have lifted a world title in Steve Beaton while Daryl Gurney faces the rapid fire style of Ricky Evans. Michael van Gerwen is the penultimate match onto the stage. Scott Taylor faces the tricky task of trying to deny him and the evening is rounded off with a tight looking tussle between Ian White and Steve West.

Betting

Two bets for me in this round of matches, both of which come in the evening session. In the first match of the session I like Max Hopp to see off Mervyn King. Hopp has a 5-1 lead over King in their head-to-head meetings and he’s in great form at the minute. We saw him in the World Cup and then he made the quarter final in Gibraltar too. He’s also won a European Tour event in Germany earlier in the season. King is plodding without getting those spectacular results at the minute and this is a terrible draw for him. Hopp played and came through on Friday and he can win again on Saturday.

Ian White is smashing it on the floor events at the minute but he’s gone a little quiet on the stage currently having lost his last three matches in European Tour events. That should give Steve West all the encouragement he needs in the final match of the evening. West made the semi-final in Gibraltar which is the best he could probably have done given that he was in van Gerwen’s half of the draw. He looks in good touch at the minute and if White’s recent stage issues continue West is perfectly good enough to dump him out.
