2018 European Darts Open – Last 16 Betting Preview

It is the final day of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen on Sunday and as ever the tournament draws to a close with the last 16 in the afternoon and the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final in the evening session.

The majority of the big names made it through the last 32 stage on Saturday which has set up a number of juicy clashes on Sunday afternoon in the last 16. We will preview that round of matches here but sadly the time restraints means we will be unable to preview anything else. Our outright pick Mensur Suljovic remains in though so hopefully he can give us some evening interest.

First Four Matches

It is the number one seed Michael van Gerwen who gets us going in the afternoon on Sunday. He takes on Alan Norris before Simon Whitlock faces Dave Chisnall in one of the matches of the round. Two men who caused upsets on Saturday meet in the third match of the day when Ron Meulenkamp looks to build on his win over Daryl Gurney when he faces Justin Pipe. The final match before the interval sees the world champion Rob Cross going up against Richard North.

Last Four Matches

Peter Wright was in impressive form on Saturday evening and he will look to continue that when he takes on John Henderson in the last 16 on Sunday. Chris Dobey takes on Joe Cullen in the match after that. The penultimate match of the afternoon sees Mensur Suljovic going up against Mervyn King and then the final match of the round sees Michael Smith playing James Wade.

Betting

I’ll go with two bets over the course of the round on Sunday with the first coming with a Dave Chisnall who is really hitting form at the minute. He has made the semi-finals and the final of a Players Championship event over the last two weekends and should be brimming with confidence. Everything has been a little more hectic for Whitlock with his involvement in the Premier League and as such his form on the floor events has been quite poor. This is on stage but with big Premier League matches on the horizon his focus could be elsewhere. I’ll be with Chisnall here.

Joe Cullen finally won a match again on Saturday but really from 3-0 up Danny Noppert should have beaten him. He didn’t but I think Chris Dobey will. I predicted Dobey would beat Kim Huybrechts on Saturday and highlighted the confidence he is carrying and I think he can beat Cullen too. Cullen didn’t really convince me against Noppert and given the winning momentum that Dobey is carrying I think he’ll have too much.

Tips

Back D.Chisnall to beat S.Whitlock for a 4/10 stake at 2.00 with BetVictor
