The last 32 of the European Darts Open takes place across two sessions of action in Leverkusen on Saturday and it is the round where the seeded players enter the fray. They go up against a winner from Friday’s play so we have much to enjoy.
That means we get to see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Mensur Suljovic and Rob Cross in action for the first time. There are some juicy matches on the schedule over the course of the day so we should be in for a wonderful exhibition of darts.

Afternoon Session
We get underway with a pair of veterans opposing each other when Ian White takes on Justin Pipe. Premier League star Gerwyn Price is second up when he plays Richard North with a good looking battle between Kyle Anderson and John Henderson following them. The final match before the interval sees Dave Chisnall facing Marko Kantele.
After the break there are four very good looking matches. They begin with Alan Norris taking on a Jermaine Wattimena who is in decent form. Kim Huybrechts then plays Chris Dobey after that before the match of the afternoon when Joe Cullen plays Danny Noppert. The session is rounded off with the home star Gabriel Clemens. He plays Mervyn King for a place in the last 16.
Evening Session
The Australian star Simon Whitlock gets things going in the evening session when he plays Tytus Kanik before World Grand Prix winner Daryl Gurney faces Ron Meulenkamp. Michael van Gerwen is then on the stage against Cameron Menzies before Peter Wright takes on Luke Woodhouse prior to the interval.
The action resumes with the match of the round when world champion Rob Cross takes on the former champion of the world in Adrian Lewis. Another world champion follows them as Jelle Klaasen plays James Wade while the penultimate match of the day sees Mensur Suljovic playing Jamie Hughes. The action concludes with Michael Smith playing Darren Johnson.

Betting
I’m going to go with three bets and they all take place in the afternoon session. Chris Dobey met Kim Huybrechts in the Players Championship Finals towards the end of last year and I remembered saying that Huybrechts is struggling on the stage. Dobey beat him to open up a 3-1 career lead between the two and I think he can make that 4-1 here. Dobey made the final of a Players Championship event last week where he beat the likes of Dave Chisnall and James Wilson along the way. Huybrechts isn’t even picking up many results on the floor so I’m with the more confident Dobey here.
Joe Cullen has lost in the first round of seven of his last eight tournaments as an injury continues to hamper him and he has to be taken on when he takes on Danny Noppert. To be fair he would have to have been opposed whoever he placed but he actually faces a very solid opponent in Noppert who came through qualifying for this tournament and then had a good win over an in form Jeffrey de Zwaan on Friday. Noppert loves the big stage and he is excellent value to see off a struggling Cullen.
I’m also going to go with the German hope Gabriel Clemens. He won four matches in qualifying on Thursday evening and lost just six legs in the process and then on Friday he picked up a 6-1 win with a near 100 average so he’s throwing some excellent darts right now. He takes on Mervyn King who isn’t liked by many crowds at the best of times let alone when he takes on a home player. King is solid enough for Clemens is in great form and needs to be backed off the back of that and his value price.
