2018 Fever-Tree Championship Tennis – Day 2 Betting Preview

We are into the second day of the Fever-Tree Championship at the Queens Club on Tuesday and with the weather set to be scorching we are hoping the tennis lives up to the same billing with a wonderful schedule prepared for the day.

It is all about the return to action of Andy Murray in truth but with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov, Kevin Anderson and Milos Raonic among others taking to the court we should get some top class action.

Day 1 Recap

Amazingly there were six matches on the opening day of the tournament and all six were won in straight sets. The only surprise in terms of bookmakers odds among those matches was that Gilles Muller beat Denis Shapovalov. Elsewhere the likes of Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka and Sam Querrey cruised through.

It was a decent first day for our bets too with both of them coming in. Two tiebreaks were enough to bring in the games total in that Muller match while Daniil Medvedev cruised past a disappointing Jack Sock who has plenty to think about ahead of Wimbledon.

Centre Court

Former champion Grigor Dimitrov begins the action on the main court when he takes on the improving Bosnian player Damir Dzumhur. Novak Djokovic was given a wildcard into this tournament and he is second up on the main court. He faces John Millman who can be dangerous on grass and then comes the match everyone is waiting for when Andy Murray takes to the courts again. He has a tough test against Nick Kyrgios. Another Brit will follow Murray when Kyle Edmund faces Ryan Harrison in the last match of the day.

Court 1

There is a decent schedule on Court 1 too where former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic opens up play against the Indian qualifier Yuki Bhambri before Tomas Berdych plays another qualifier in Julien Benneteau. The defending champion Feliciano Lopez gets going in the third match of the afternoon when he goes up against David Goffin and then the action is concluded on this court with Dan Evans facing Adrian Mannarino.

Court 5

The action doesn’t end there though as there are a couple of matches out on Court 5 and if you have a grounds pass you will get to see the number three seed in action when Kevin Anderson takes on Leonardo Mayer. The other match sees the qualifier Tim Smyczek facing Jeremy Chardy before the doubles takes centre stage.

Betting

I’ll go with three bets in the second day of action. The first of those comes out on Court 1 where I think the defending champion Feliciano Lopez is a shade big at 6/5 to beat David Goffin. The Belgian holds a 3-0 head-to-head lead but none of their meetings have been on grass where Lopez’s serve is at its most effective. I don’t think Goffin plays his best tennis on the grass either so I’m pretty happy to be on Lopez there.

Moving back to the Centre Court I can see Kyle Edmund having his work cut out against Ryan Harrison. Edmund is a good player these days but grass is probably his weakest surface. His only win on grass since Nottingham in 2016 was against British wildcard Alexander Ward at Wimbledon last year. Harrison is more comfortable on the surface and certainly has the weapons to be tricky on grass. I don’t see Edmund powering to victory here. This could easily go three sets in which case I like Harrison with the 3.5 game start in a match the Brit could win but may just as easily lose.

I will side with one Brit on the day though and that is Dan Evans who has played a lot of matches in recent times as he bids to climb the rankings after his drugs ban. He plays Adrian Mannarino who is actually half decent on the grass but he lost his first match on grass in Holland last week and arrives here having not won any of his last six matches dating back to April. Evans might have been operating at a lower level but he’s been winning at it and we know he can play the game. I’ll take him here too.
