2018 Fever-Tree Championship Tennis – Day 4 Betting Preview

The last 16 of the Fever-Tree Championships end on Thursday when the final three matches in the round take place on the centre court at the Queens Club. By the end of the day we will know the quarter final line up in the singles draw.

With Milos Raonic having to pull out of the event taking the match list down to three, it is a truncated schedule but with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov, Nick Kyrgios and the one remaining home player left in the draw Kyle Edmund on show there should be no lacking in quality.

Day 3 Recap

It was a day of three set matches on the Centre Court on Wednesday when all three singles games went the distance. There were wins for Frances Tiafoe, Marin Cilic and Sam Querrey while on the outside court Jeremy Chardy blasted his way past Daniil Medvedev in fine style to make his way into the quarter final.

It was a great day for us betting wise as both bets landed safely enough. Frances Tiafoe won the first and third sets against Leonardo Mayer while Marin Cilic and Gilles Muller combined for enough games to cover the line we needed. That makes it six winners from seven bets for the week.

Nick Kyrgios vs Kyle Edmund

The opening singles match on the fourth day sees the Australian maverick Nick Kyrgios taking on the British number one Kyle Edmund. It will be the second time this week that Kyrgios will have faced a British player after he took care of Andy Murray on his return to action on Tuesday.

These two meet for the first time here and in truth it is not an easy match to predict. I would expect Kyrgios to be the more suited to this surface but some of his antics in the win over Murray were not that of someone I want to have my hard earned on in any way, shape or form. Given all that this is one to watch rather than punt on in my eyes.

Novak Djokovic vs Grigor Dimitrov

The pick of the second round matches is the second one on the Thursday schedule when Novak Djokovic takes on Grigor Dimitrov in a real top class heavyweight contest for the right to face either Julien Benneteau or Adrian Mannarino in the quarter final.

Djokovic is working his way back to full capacity but looked good in the previous round while Dimitrov is looking to build up some confidence ahead of Wimbledon where he should be a major contender if he is on top of his game. Djokovic holds the upper hand in their recent meetings but Dimitrov should be able to match his foe here.

I don’t think there will be too much between these two and it could be a point here or there that decides it but I think the all court game of the Bulgarian might just give him the slightest edge if there is one and he can ride his 3.5 game head start as a result of that.

Julien Benneteau vs Adrian Mannarino

The final match of the second round sees the two Frenchmen doing battle when Julien Benneteau takes on Adrian Mannarino for a place in a rare quarter final at this level for both men.

Benneteau has won both their previous meetings but they haven’t met since 2013 so I’m not sure how relevant that is. Mannarino won for the first time in seven matches in the first round but Dan Evans served for the match against him. Benneteau was excellent against Tomas Berdych and on that evidence I would side with him but he’s the favourite and a shade skinny for my liking so I’ll sit and watch this one too.
