The quarter finals of the French Open get going in Paris on Tuesday with the bottom half of each of the two singles draws being played out on the two main courts on the Roland Garros complex. We’re at the business stage of the tournament now so we should get some enthralling tennis to enjoy.
Among others on show over the course of Tuesday we have the former champion here in Novak Djokovic as well as the reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens. Some of the best young talents are on show too on what will hopefully be an entertaining day.
Day 9 Recap
We were treated to a couple of wonderful five setters on Monday when Diego Schwartzman edged out Kevin Anderson from two sets down while Marin Cilic outlasted Fabio Fognini in a decider having previously surrendered a two set lead. Elsewhere there were comfortable wins for Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro as well as the women’s number one Simona Halep and former number one Angelique Kerber. Sadly we were denied the match up of the day when Serena Williams withdrew before her meeting with Maria Sharapova.
The day started well for us with Schwartzman overturning his deficit and continued well with Daria Kasatkina winning three straight games upon the resumption of her match with Caroline Wozniacki but we were denied three winners on the day when Angelique Kerber powered past Caroline Garcia.
Philippe Chatrier Court
It is the pick of the men’s quarter finals which gets us started on Philippe Chatrier on Tuesday. Dominic Thiem meets Alexander Zverev for the second time and their seventh time overall while the US Open champion Sloane Stephens looks to continue her quest to reach halfway in the career Grand Slam when she faces the good to watch and exciting Russian player Daria Kasatkina in the second and final match on this court.
Suzanne Lenglen Court
While it is the men who get us started on Chatrier it is the other way around on Lenglen with the women starting things off. US Open finalist Madison Keys takes on one of the surprise packages of the tournament in Yulia Putintseva before Novak Djokovic looks to make it into another Grand Slam semi-final when he takes on Marco Cecchinato for the first time in their careers to round off the action on this court.

Betting
My betting on Tuesday comes purely from the women’s draw. I fancy Thiem to beat Zverev but the prices are about right and I’m already on the Austrian to win the tournament which is enough interest there while the handicap looks about right in the Djokovic match.
Sloane Stephens and Daria Kasatkina have both played some good tennis this fortnight so far and I’m expecting that to continue when they oppose each other in the biggest match either have played in Paris in their careers. They meet for the first time here which is interesting as it could take each of them a few games to work the other out. Both have attractive games. Stephens is more about power while Kasatkina is a shot maker so I’m expecting plenty of short rallies here. I’m expecting this to be tight either across two sets or even over three so over 21.5 games appeals.
