2018 German Masters Snooker – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of action at the German Masters inside the Tempodrom in Berlin on Thursday is the only day of the tournament where there are three sessions of play. The first round concludes and the last 16 begins on what should be a day packed with great action.

We saw a big shock on the first day of the event with The Masters champion Mark Allen dumped out. There was better news for the likes of Ding Junhui, Judd Trump and Mark Williams who all made it safely through.

Morning Session

There are just the three matches in the opening session of the day, two of which are on the main tables. The TV game in the morning session will see the Champion of Champions winner Shaun Murphy facing Alan McManus while on the other streamed offering Niu Zhuang takes on Mark Davis. The other match away from the spotlight will be between Hammad Miah and Mei Xi Wen.

Afternoon Session

All of the tables will be utilised in the afternoon session as the first round concludes. The world champion and world number one Mark Selby goes up against Xiao Guodong on the TV table while the streamed table will show Barry Hawkins against Graeme Dott. Those in the venue have a couple of other decent matches to enjoy not least Tom Ford taking on Liang Wenbo and Ryan Day playing Thepchaiya Un-Nooh. The other game sees Dave Gilbert taking on Mark Joyce.

Evening Session

Places in the quarter finals are at stage in the evening session when the last 16 of the tournament begins. Judd Trump will be back on one of the main tables when he faces the challenge of Joe Perry while Ding Junhui will be on the other taking on Ricky Walden. The outside tables will have Jimmy Robertson playing Gary Wilson and Matthew Selt facing Mark Williams.

Betting

I’m going to take two bets over the course of the day on Thursday. The first one comes in the form of Mei Xi Wen who I just think will have too much scoring power for Hammad Miah. Miah is not used to being at the main venues and ones like this whereas courtesy of wildcards and Asian Tour events in the past and things Mei Xi Wen is more accustomed to it. The Chinese player is the better of these two and I expect him to show that here.

Moving into the evening and I like the look of Gary Wilson to see off Jimmy Robertson. We got to see Robertson on the TV table on Wednesday and he didn’t play that great. He was fortunate that Anthony Hamilton barely turned up. Wilson had a good win over Martin Gould and was 14 reds into a 147 attempt at one point which shows he is hitting the ball well. Robertson isn’t going to tie Wilson up so if he offers up the chances to the Geordie that Hamilton received and botched I’m expecting Wilson to take advantage and come through here.
